ACC Dream11, Winner of the 1844 Jodah Trophy in the 2nd Series USA vs Canada

The 2nd American College Cricket Dream11 USA vs Canada Series provided great cricket from some extremely talented players, even opposing players were admiring the talent of their opponents. Auburn Captain Abhishek said that he was honored to play with such talent. Though the competitiveness was strong, there was great camaraderie among the players of both teams, and the mutual admiration of the Captains Sai & Hassan was clear.

Some of the Canadian boys had flight issues, and ended up in Las Vegas, from where they drove to Riverside, arriving at 7 am ! This led to a very late start. The sun was brilliant, the temp perfect, about 70. The outfield was really fast, with LA drought conditions leaving practically no grass cover so the boundaries were set at 70 yards.

GAME 1 – USA batted first, Captain Sai Ramesh (USF) and Rutgers’ Haider Ali opening. and Canada struck quickly getting Sai, Canada was ecstatic !
Newcomer of the Year Vignesh Rg (USF) came in, got his eye in with some defensive shots then set about destroying the bowling with exquisite shots, especially in the V.He made 64 in 35 balls, 4 fours & 5 sixes. Haider made 27 whilst Drexel’s Maaez Veqar struck 39 in 22 balls. USA made 184 for 8 in their 20 overs. Nikhil Dutta (Ryerson) got 3 wickets for 50.

Canada lost the early wicket of Captain Hassan Mirza (Ryerson) but Farhan Khan stood firm, striking 7 fours and 1 six for 68 runs. He got support from Salad Zafar (Ryerson) 29 and Dutta,29 not out but Hayat Khan got Khan and zafar and was on a hat trick. Khan finished with 3 w for 42 runs as he ensured Canada fell short, making 170 for 7 in 20.https://www.crichq.com/#matches/339790/1st_innings

GAME 2: was reduced to 15 overs, Sai and Haider put on 47 before Haider went for 17. Sai made 39 in 16 balls, striking 3fours and 4 sixes! Then Saurabh Netravalkar (Cornell) took control, playing a remarkable array of technically perfect shots but clearing the fence by far, for 7 sixes & stroking 4 fours!

Hassan Mirza took 3 for 35 as USA made 186 for 6 in 15.
The total seemed impregnable but Mirza 38 with 4 fours and 3 sixes, and “the Beast” Numan Aslam 43* (4 fours &3 sixes) were ferocious, and when bad light stopped play Canada deservedly won on Duckworth Lewis !

GAME 3: It drizzled for much of this match and made it difficult for the fielding team. USA won the toss and opted to field and though Netravalkar struck early and Canada was 1 for 1, Numan “The Beast” Aslam 66* (42 balls,5 fours 3 sixes), and Nikhil Dutta 40, (19 balls 4 sixes & 1 four led the charge and Canada improbably piled up 217 for 6 in 20 overs. The wet ball led to some fielding lapses by the Dream11 USA.

Sai Ramesh and Maaez Veqar (Drexel) opened the batting for USA, and Sai Ramesh looked like a rampaging warrior, flicks and powerful drives brought up his 50 in 16 balls, before getting out on 58 in 18 balls,4 sixes and 6 fours ! Maaez made 23 and Saurabh struck a 4 & 6 before the rain became too much. Eventually play was called off and USA deservedly won on Duckworth Lewis, in an improbable victory much as Canada did in the 2nd game.

As American College Cricket Founder & President Lloyd Jodah summarized, “The effort of all the players to make the event happen was incredible and we are indebted to Janak Patel who came through with the field, the work of groundsman Chris, hotel owner Pradeep of the Orange Show Hotel, and umpire Eddy.

Our appreciation to the West Coast players, for their efforts though we did not get to play that game because of the rain.

The great David Sentance was a backbone of the weekend, and fittingly he presented most of the Trophies, whilst in addition to the Captains Sai Ramesh and Hassan Mirza, it was an honor to have India U19 World Cup player Saurabh Netravalkar (Cornell) presenting medals to all of the players. We’re all looking forward to the 3rd Series, in Toronto on Memorial Day Weekend. The teams are now tied 1-1.”
