NY Daily News & High School Championship !

Talk about parity in the NFL ! This year the 2 Finalists in the New York City Public High School (PSAL) league Franklin Theodore Roosevelt High School and Long Island City High School. Neither team has made it to the Finals before, in fact LIC High has never even dreamed of coming close !

In 2008 and 2009 Newcomers High defeated John Adams High to take the Championship, and it apppeared as if they would dominate for years. However in 2010 Richmond Hill High realized their potential and faced Willliam C Bryant High in the Finals – Bryant took that Championship.

All the Champions have so far come from Queens, but FDR High could be the first High School Champion from Brooklyn. The team is full of stars: the Tariq brothers,Zahib and Jazeb, Abrar Zafar and Mohaiminul Islam being the most accomplished. Last season Abrar Zafar scored 2 centuries, and in 2011 he has scored 1. Mohaiminul scored a centy 2 weeks ago.

Long Island City High has gone from being pushovers in their first 3 years of high school cricket to Finalists this year ! Their team has no stars, just a team of guys giving their best effort under Coach Dharamveer Gehlaut.

Unlike other NYC media, the NY Times and the NY Daily News have not ignored cricket-playing New Yorkers and the NY Daily News just did a piece on the PSAL league so we look forward to seeing them at the Finals. READ MORE in the NY Daily News
