The top run scorer of American College Cricket’s 3 national Championships has been York University’s Khushroo Wadia, who scored the most runs in the 2010 and 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championships (6 half centuries in 10 innings).

This propelled him into the spotlight, and contributed to his selection to make his international debut for Canada.

In the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, Khushroo put on 76 for the opening partnership with Jai Patel, then batted nearly the entire innings for 54 runs, before being run out at the end with York U on 162 – they scored 163 for 6 in their 20 overs, and became the Champions !

York University’s American College Cricket win gave cricket at the University level a rebirth in Canada, and increased opportunities for young Canadian cricketers.

At the 2010 Championship Khushroo had scores of 4, 75*, 38,22, 78 and 54 for a total of 271, average 54.2.

At the March 2011 Spring Break Championship he smashed 58, 28, 67 and 65 (tied with Adrian Gordon,NYU-Poly for most runs) for a total of 218, average 54.5 . Just about the same as 2010 ! His total in American College Cricket is 10 ins,1 not out, 489 runs, average 54.33 !

It has truly been a priviledge to watch Khushroo and Jai Patel, a left hander who is an exquisite stroker of the ball, play many delightful opening partnerships for York University – they are unquestionably the best opening pair we have !

On his debut in 2011 for Canada, Khushroo smashed 40 runs, 5 fours and 1 six, before he was out with Canada on 62 runs. Among his other scores for Canada were 56,75* and 37. His 56 was against USA and included 8 fours & a 6 in 32 balls!  A bad knee has affected his training since.

Khushroo was selected for the “All American team” (comprised of the best American College Cricket players) in 2010 and 2011. Very powerfully built and one of the hardest hitters of the ball, Wadia is a technically correct batsman who plays a lot of his cricket in the Toronto District Association league.

Khushroo’s off the field efforts include being a prolific poster of AmericanCollegeCricket.com articles on Facebook – carrying out one of the mandates of our members that’s most important. He often asks what more he can do for American College Cricket.

Back in March 2010 Khushroo had the pleasure of playing on the first webcast of domestic cricket in the USA and Canada when American  College Cricket broadcast 3 games, he said his friends and family in Toronto and Kuwait watched,
“American College Cricket Media coverage is the best ! My parents saw the Finals (in 2010) in Kuwait on the webcast – thank you for that !
As a result Cricket Canada is giving more recognition to college cricket.”

Khushroo is currently finishing his degree in business whilst studying for the CGA (Canada’s equivalent to the CPA).

Five College Cricket Players of the Year 2011 will be declared, in no special order. Selection criteria includes off the field and on the field performances.
