American College Cricket alumnus to open NYC Indoor Cricket facility soon !

Hayat, bowling against York University,at the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship to superb batsman Jai Patel, with now Canadian national player Khushroo Wadia at the non-striker’s end.
Of countless dreams,my only dream as a boy not about girls….. was about having someone bowl to me whilst I bat all day.

For a long time that dream receded from my brain only to revive in the last couple of years, since I came home from the first American College Cricket Spring Break Championship in March 2009. I made a few trips to an Indoor Cricket place in Brooklyn, then Long Island, before both places closed.

Now an American College Cricket alumni, Hayat Sikander, is opening an Indoor Cricket facilty in Queens,NY only blocks from me !

Hayat played on the York College Cricket team in 2010, when they challenged Toronto’s York University in the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship. An experience he said, “I’ll never forget, it was incredible. “

He graduated in 2010, with a degree in Electrical Engineering . After working (whilst in school) for Con Edison for 2 years he became an Associate Engineer with another company,National Grid USA.

Hayat explained, “I love playing cricket, and American College Cricket is making it a great time to begin a cricket business. I also always wanted to have my own business so I turned my cricket passion into a business, using money I had saved.

New York cricket players really need a place to practice – one that was easy to get to. It’s two blocks away from York College, and 5 blocks away from the LIRR, J, E, & Z train station. People can get here even with no car.

It will be a state-of-the-art facility with three lanes and a bowling machine.”

Hayat is working feverishly to open on the weekend of the American College Cricket Northeast Championship (Oct 8 & 9) when 8 college teams will be in New York, and will assist him in opening in grand style !

The College Teams are : Boston University,NYU-Poly, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, City College,Vaughn College,McGill University (from Montreal) and NJ Institute of Technology. York College (of NY), 2011 Canadian Champions Ryerson University, and 2010 Chanderpaul Trophy winner York University (of Toronto) might be added but are not confirmed. The Semis and the Finals will be covered by TV Asia.

Hayat Sikandar’s NYC Indoor Cricket Club is in the right place, at the right time.
