Our All Star Saurabh Netravalkar & Strikers win 1st MiLC !
Former India u19 World Cup fastbowler Saurabh Netravalkar came to Cornell University without his cricket shoes, as he thought his cricket career was done. But he fell right into American College Cricket tournaments, and his cricket dreams were revived ! He was selected for our All Star team then made Captain to lead the team to 3-0 victory over the Canadian All stars.
Saurabh then led USA to ODI status, and a chance at the next World Cup. Now with the Silicon Valley Strikers team led by Unmukt Chand, also a former India u19, they won the first semi-pro cricket in USA, the Toyota Minor League Cricket Championship presented by Sling (which has also been an American College Cricket sponsor). The league is backed by Willow, and shown on the channel.
Lloyd was in Morrisville for the weekend and caught up with Saurabh. Though they communicate this was their first in person meetup since Saurabh led the American College Cricket All Stars in Jan 2018.
Lloyd was happy to see other cricket in USA getting to the TV broadcast standards set by American College Cricket and TV Asia since back in March 2012 of 14 camera shoot etc, with pioneer Lal Dadlaney. Cricclubs provided the scoring, as it has for our broadcasts on SONY since 2016.
Alvin Kallicharran, all time great who was the world’s #1 batsman in the 1970s & early 80s was there, and once again met Lloyd, with whose family Kallicharran lived on his way to Test stardom.
Among the other notables that Lloyd met were Mark Stohlman, former Morrisville Mayor who played a huge role in the establishment of the wonderful Morrisville cricket field, and the current Mayor. Cricket notables like USA Cricket CEO Iain Higgins, USA Directors Ajith Bhaskar, Nadia Gurny, Suraj Viswanathan; USA Women’s Coach Julia Price and record setting USA player Jaskaran Malhotra. Our own Susheel Bhat, longtime cricket administrator in Michigan, who has been a part of our Mid West Championship since 2015 spent a lot of time with Lloyd
