American College Cricket Doctor to be on Medical Team for India v West Indies
Worldwide Sports Management is responsible for bringing International Cricket to the Broward County Stadium, a place dear to the hearts of American College Cricket members. Last year it brought Bangladesh and West Indies for 2 exciting matches, plus the CPL, now this year India will be playing the West Indies on Aug 3 & 4.
As part of their mission, Worldwide Sports has been providing opportunities for American College Cricket members, our season MVP gets to train in Jamaica with the Jamaica Tallawahs and others get internships. Accordingly last year Neel Patel (South Alabama) got some Management insights into a large cricket event, whilst Hayat Khan (Drexel), now a Doctor, got to be a part of the Medical Team for the event.
For this year’s India matches, once again we’ll have the privilege of having an American College Cricket member attached to the Medical Team and the person selected is actually a former player, now a Doctor, Dr Varendra Jamwant. Dr Jamwant played in 2011 when we started a team at UCF, and has since shown up as a supporter at practically every National & South East Championship. Even more importantly Dr Jamwant has come even after becoming a Doctor, and was there at last Nationals. He is currently a Resident Physician at a hospital in Florida.
A major reason for the selection of Dr Jamwant is that, going forward he will be the Official Doctor for our American College Cricket National Championship in particular, as well as our South East even as he considers pursuing Sports Medicine further. As we also usually have Med and Pre Med students among our players the Doctor will also ‘intern’ those students who wish, at Nationals.
Thanks to Worldwide Sports Management and Jamaica Tallawahs owner Kris Persaud, and CEO Jeff Miller for these opportunities.
