The 2018 American College Cricket National Championship will be played March 14 to March 18, 2018. Twenty four college teams will compete at the Central Broward Regional Park and nearby fields in 5 days, 50 games of intense cricket action & fun to be National Champion and win the Shiv Chanderpaul Trophy.

Chanderpaul has been a Patron of American College Cricket from its inception when he became the first major, active Test cricketer to assist the development of the game in America. Shiv said,”It’s a pleasure to help the growth of the game – in 2017 I had a great time attending the National Championship, meeting students, presenting the Awards & doing commentary. The cricket was extremely competitive as always.”

The National Championship has been played every year since March 2009. That first Championship was featured in the New York Times, was the most popular Times’ story of that week, and motivated regular International cricket coverage by the NY times since then. In 2010 American College Cricket did the first web stream in the USA & Canada of domestic cricket, then did the first TV from 2011 with TV Asia. The 2014 National Championship became the first cricket in the USA broadcast by sports giant, ESPN. The 2017 Nationals Semis & Finals were televised by SONY Pictures.

To be eligible to play in the National Championship, a college in USA & Canada must be a member of American College Cricket. Playing in a 2017 Regional Championship and in 2017 Home & Away matches are important (contact Lloyd if you are not sure of where you stand, or with questions ). If your team plays outside of American College Cricket & allows non-students to play, it can NOT participate. In sports in the USA, colleges ONLY play vs other colleges, cricket can not continue to ignore the American sports landscape and expect to grow and become mainstream.

Teams may be drawn from Undergrads, Masters & Phd students (and up to 2 alumni in the Playing XI if your college allows). Rosters have be emailed directly from the school to Lloyd by a Staff such as Club Sports Director, Club Advisor etc.

Members of our clubs must also be actively engaged in promoting American College Cricket in social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc, as broadcasters & sponsors will only invest if we are growing the audience for the game. Cricket can NOT be played only for cricketers.

Teams that are promoting what we do, sharing American College Cricket photos, statuses etc on Facebook & that have played lots of Home & Away matches get priority in Rankings, All Star selections and so on.
.
As in all American College Cricket events, matches will be 20/20, finish in 3 hours and played with white balls and colored uniforms. The best players will be selected to represent the USA in the annual Series USA vs Canada, to be played twice a year.

HOTEL : Each year we arrange Group Discounts at 2 nearby hotels. ALL teams must stay at these hotels to justify the hotels giving us these rates. When the Contracts are signed the info will be released to Club Presidents.
UNIFORMS : All teams must wear official American College Cricket uniforms – to complete your order contact Lloyd. NO exceptions like in Regionals.
SCORING : ALL scoring is done with Cric Clubs. All teams must have at least 3 people able to use Cric Clubs well.
PHOTOS, VIDEO, INTERVIEWS : Participating in any American College Cricket event is authorization for use in Photos & Videos & Interviews.

FORMAT : Groups of 4, teams play each other. Winner advances to the Quarter Finals. In 2017 we had 7 Groups so the 8th team was the # 8 team overall on Net Run Rate. The Quarter Finals are the last games on Saturday, played on 4 different fields simultaneously, the Winners make it to the Semi Finals which are played at 9 & 12 noon on Sunday March 18, followed by the Finals after a 1 hour Break.

WILDCARD – if you’re starting a new college team, missed Regionals but would like to play Nationals, contact Lloyd Jodah to see if you qualify as a Wild Card team !

Participants in the American College Cricket National Championship since 2009, have usually described it as “the best Spring Break” they’ve ever had, and the camaraderie, memories, photos & videos remain with you for the rest of your lives.
