NY Yankees’ Derek Jeter intro to American College Cricket – Photos !
Derek Jeter is the Captain of the NY Yankees, has won 5 World Series, is one of the greatest baseball players of all time & a future Hall of Famer. Last week American College Cricket President had the priviledge of meeting Derek Jeter – the result is these remarkable photos of Jeter handling a cricket bat, ball & helmets, as he said, “This is the first time ever I’ve signed a cricket ball”
Lloyd said,
“When I handed Derek (he introduces himself as Derek) the cricket bat he naturally gripped it the correct way but nevertheless asked “How do you hold it ?”
I was happy to tell him that he was gripping it the right way, then showed him to lean over the bat, with it touching the ground.
We bought & used this bat in the first-ever American College Cricket Spring Break Championship in 2009 (the teams had no equipment) & I took a photo of my brother Colin Michael with this bat, shortly before he died. Now its been held, and signed by Derek Jeter !
Among the things I asked him was if he knew of Sachin Tendulkar (he did) and what he thought of Sachin’s retirement after 24 years – Derek spoke of the dedication & hard work it took to stay at the top of a sport for so long.”
