UT Arlington to play vs All Stars This Weekend !
This weekend, Nov 20 & 21, will be All Star Weekend with a bit of twist. Instead of the usual USA vs Canada it will be the 2 teams of All Stars playing each other in a 2 best out of 3 Series: the JodahXI vs the Sentance XI, named after Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President and David Sentance, VP & cricket author & historian. Following those 3 matches 12 players will be selected for an American College Cricket All Stars Team that will play vs UT Arlington.
The UT Arlington club was started Feb 2013 by student Umer Syed and Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President. Amazingly it reached the Semi Finals at the National Championship in March 2013 and played on TV (on TV Asia). The club then won the South West Championship from 8 teams. UTA’s Umer Syed and Haris Saddique secured 6 fields in Dallas, umpires etc and greatly helped organized the tournament. American College Cricket & the club’s work earned a cricket field on campus, just like at UT Dallas nearby.
The club played on SONY at the 2016 South Semis & finals – a great privilege as SONY has been the top cricket broadcaster in the world and helped the IPL become the IPL ! In 2017 UT Arlington won the South West C’ship again. Whilst the South West Regional has been played at Moosa since 2014, the players in the current team have not, so they are excited to play on Moosa’s turf wicket.
Syed, a 2013 College Player of the Year and is now in the American College Cricket Hall of Fame. Other notable Mavericks have been Rahul Rao who smashed 94 vs the All Star team Jan 2017, a bowling attack that included Saurabh Netravalkar, current USA Captain & fast bowler. Harish Bv has been one of our top wicket keepers and Likith Gowda was Captain in 2017.
ALL 4 matches will be Live Streamed on the American College Cricket Facebook page starting at 9.30 am Central Time on Sat Nov 20 and 1.30 pmOn Sunday Streaming will start at 9am, and the UTA game will be at 1 pm.
