Boston U May Tackle Canadian Nationals this Year !
/a>The reigning Home and Away Champion Boston U is off to a good start for the 2019 season, having already played 4 of their minimum 8 games before ending the season for Exams and Summer Break. Their players are topping the stats so far, with all rounder Tegveer Ghura topping both batting and bowling. In 4 innings he has scored 144 runs averaging 36, with a Highest Score of 75 whilst Bowling he’s taken 6 wickets at 18 a piece. Jai Patel is just behind with 140 runs from 3 innings.
However the club will not be resting on their laurels over the Summer Break as they would like to play in the 2019 Canadian College Cricket National Championship, which Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President has authorized and encouraged for all teams. Canadian universities have been a part of American College Cricket from the beginning, and Canadian College Cricket was set up with Lloyd’s mentorship. The 2 organizations work closely together as the college organisations for the 2 countries.
There are steps to follow, BU Club Sports approval will be needed, Visas for International students applied for, and of course the club will need funds that won’t take away from playing in the North East Regional and Nationals. The Boston University club is our only club to never miss an American College Cricket tournament, as it was 1 of the pioneering first 5.
However, Club President Maaz Elahi who has been one of our best Presidents this past year, said that it’s something the Club is actively looking at. Hassan Mirza, Canadian College Cricket President, said, ‘This is another example of how American College Cricket has helped the game in Canada – it would be the first time an American university is participating in the Canadian Nationals. We love the support and shows how working together we’re providing great opportunities for college players in both countries.”
As Lloyd said, ‘One of the reasons the Canadian College Cricket National Championship was moved from August to September this year, is to give American universities a chance to participate. From the beginning our platform has been for college players in both countries. Additionally we may count matches played at the Canadian Nationals towards a team’s quota of Home & Away matches.’
