West Virginia Mountaineers are 2019 National Champions !

After 2 exciting Semi Finals on SONY, presented by SLING one of the most exciting Final in American College Cricket history took place, between NJIT and West Virginia !

NJIT batted first and after losing 2 wickets Kavin Shah came in and took control, smashing 46 in 24 balls whilst Savan Patel, 51 held the other end. NJIT finished on 177 for 8 – a very good total. Sri Krishna took 3 for 11.

Getting 178 to win was a tough task especially after losing a wicket atr 4 runs, but Raj Shekhar,79 in 41 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes and veteran Sohail Choudhary 50, 37 balls, 7 fours and 1 six took the score to 146 before Shekhar got out with WVU in a comfortable position to win. However NJIT kept fighting and 5 wickets fell before West Virginia got the winning runs with 2 overs to spare.

It had taken West Virginia 6 years to get to a Nationals Final and take home the David & Paula Williams Trophy to their President Dr Gordon Gee and West Virginia University. Dr Gee was an early supporter of American College Cricket, attending the 1st Regional tournament, the 2010 Mid West where he agreed to have the Mid West Trophy named after him, and to be on the American College Cricket Advisory Board.

‘Having Dr Gee’s early endorsement and support was awesome and very meaningful, so it’s a deserving circle, and fantastic, for his current college to win the National Championship’, Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President said.

Both Semis and Final was broadcast for the 3rd year by SONY, the world’s largest cricket broadcaster, and presented by SLING. Of the 105 member countries of the International Cricket Council,only 7 National Bodies have TV agreements but American College Cricket has had since 2011, with TV Asia, ESPN and SONY.
