Are You an “All American” ? What Does It Mean ?
Like other American sports, we have selected “All American” teams in the past, honoring our best players for that year. However, since the concept was new to cricket, and new especially our International students, it was unclear to many of you what it meant. Because it was called a “Team”, many of you had expectations of playing together etc.
Accordingly we are re-launching the concept – “All American” for us will be more clearly defined as a status, not a team. It will recognize the best among our members for the year just finished, for ON and OFF the field accomplishments. Therefore those among you, who might not be the best players, but contribute significantly to your club, and our Mission, will get the recognition you deserve for that specific year.
Being selected as an “All American” will be a different & separate honor from our “All Stars” teams. You can be one, without being the other or you can be both.
American employers know of, and understand, the term “All American” – being “All American” in cricket will have value beyond your playing days.
Criteria : whilst there will be different categories, excelling in OFF the field categories can make up for minor ON field performance.
However, excelling on field, but doing nothing off the field will not earn you selection. We do not see this as a problem, as all of our top players also contribute off the field.
A disciplinary issue in the year in question, can negate other positive scores.
The 2016 All Americans will be announced after the end of the Spring Semester based on the following criteria.
Off the Field Performance :
1 – Club President or other Executive
2 – Social Media leader
3 – if not holding one of the above positions, documented efforts to advance American College Cricket & support our Initiatives, and our sponsors.
On Field performance – stats on Crichq
Education – a given in the case of our players.
