The 32 Colleges for the 2015 American College Cricket National Championship !
Texas is huge, so its no surprise that 6 Texan colleges are in the National Championship, next is host state Florida with 4, with Canada and Massachusetts having 3 each. 5 colleges will be making their National Championship debut : University of the Fraser Valley, U of Texas Dallas, Northeastern, U of Maryland College Park and Drexel University.
New team University of Texas Dallas burst into the American College Cricket South West Regionals a week ago, winning the title. They look pretty good, but have to be careful not to be overconfident because at the National Championship, every team takes their competitiveness up to another level whilst Northeastern has been one of the most active teams in the American College Cricket Home & Away season.
University of the Fraser Valley is coming all the way from the West Coast of Canada, British Columbia. An area that has had some cricket going back 200 years (played by British sailors), and Sikhs settled in British Columbia as far back as 150 years ago.British Columbia boasts one of the oldest continuously maintained cricket fields in North America. UFV wants to make their mark, whilst “old” American College Cricket members Ryerson out of Toronto, and Mc Gill from Quebec, will have new teams competing.
American College Cricket pioneer Boston University as always will be there, whilst Harvard with wicket keeper 2014 John Bart King Award winner Norris Guscott, who is in the current issue of Sports Illustrated, will once more negotiate around their exams to play (as are a few other teams).
Despite fielding a lot of new players at the 2014 South East Regionals, National Champion USF looked formidable. At 2014 Nationals Auburn was a surprise giant killer, knocking down every top seeded team in its path until the Finals, but this year they will have a target on their back
An amazing fact of American College Cricket is the tremendous talent that have been given a platform to show their skills, and it means that all of the teams have a real chance at winning the Chanderpaul Trophy and the National Championship. Defending Champion University of South Florida struggled to win a title for 5 years before finally winning a Regional then the National Championship last year.
