The Smart Choice Moosa Cricket Stadium, Texas, under construction
The 5th American College Cricket Mid Atlantic Championship will, for the 3rd year be at the British Officers’ Cricket Club (BOCC) in Pennsylvania,on Oct 18 & 19, where Ernie Precious and the BOCC have been wonderful hosts. University of Pennsylvania is the defending Champion.
The South East Championship will, for the 5th time, return to the Central Broward Regional Park side fields, on Nov 1 & 2. National Champion U of South Florida is defending Champion.
The new exciting news is that the American College Cricket South West Championship will be at the new stadium, in Houston Texas, the Smart Choice Moosa Cricket Stadium ! U of Texas Arlington is the defending Champion.
The Stadium is being built by Houston businessman, and cricket supporter Sakhi Muhammad, to top ICC standards, with turf wickets, and is only the 2nd cricket Stadium in North America. It is almost finished and will be ready for November. American College Cricket Founder & President Lloyd Jodah was invited by the Smart Choice Auto Group CEO Muhammad to bring a tournament to the Stadium.
Sakhi said, “This will be the new beginning for Houston to host a reputable tournament.”
The Houston Cricket League (HCL) will provide the other 3 fields needed for the Group stages of the Championship on Sat Nov 15, and have graciously also rearranged their schedule accordingly. HCL President Nanda Kumar said, “Thanks to American College Cricket for planning to host the South West Championship in Houston and Sakhi for facilitating this.”
American College Cricket Founder & President Lloyd Jodah said,
“We strive to get the best venues possible for our players, and also to highlight those venues as that’s the best way for the game to get more and better facilities. Our support for the CBRP Stadium since 2009 has been a key factor in why, despite its struggles, its still available for cricket.
In a very short time Sakhi and his Smart Choice Auto Group has shown a strong cricket commitment, and integrity we can work with. Our American College Cricket members will be eager to support the Smart Choice Moosa Cricket Stadium, and ecstatic to play there. Nanda Kumar and the HCL’s support have made it logistically possible, and our longtime Nationals’ Tournament Manager Amir Sadiqqui will be there.
We had an excellent South West Championship, with 12 teams, last year in Dallas on the fields of the North Texas Cricket League and hosted by the University of Texas Arlington club led by Umer Syed but felt that having the 2014 American College Cricket South West Championship at the new Smart Choice Moosa Cricket Stadium would be a great way to launch the 2nd cricket stadium in North America unto the world stage.”
To register for the Championships American College Cricket member clubs must email Lloyd. The Mid Atlantic & South East Championship will be limited to 6 teams each. The South West Championship will be limited to 12.
