Happy Birthday to Hall of Famer Shiv Chanderpaul, still at the top of the game !
Happy 39th birthday to the great Shivnarine Chanderpaul ! The first person in the American College Cricket Hall of Fame.
From the age of 13 Chanderpaul has been a part of the Jodah family, staying 3 days a week with Harry Jodah to play cricket at the venerable Georgetown Cricket Club. At the same time Lloyd Jodah’s brother Errol, & cousins Richie & Moses were also playing at GCC.
The late Colin Michael , Lloyd’s older brother, taught Shiv to play Dominoes.
A loyal, humble and prescient man the iconic Chanderpaul had no hesitation backing American College Cricket, when asked in December 2008. At the time Shiv was ranked # 1 in the world, and had won the Wisden & ICC awards for Cricketer of the Year.
Shiv became, & still is, the ONLY active player to be involved with development of the game in the USA, Canada or any non-major cricket nation – truly a pioneer.
Colleges in the USA & Canada now play for the Shiv Chanderpaul Trophy each year, and TV Asia has become the exclusive broadcast partner; Coca Cola is a Presenting Sponsor & Dish Network a supporting sponsor.
Shiv has also met with college students from University of Florida, University of South Florida and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
In Dec 2012 he announced the launch of the American College Cricket Hall of Fame later was surprised to learn that he was the first Inductee ! Brian Lara, Clive Lloyd, Courtney Walsh & Jimmy Adams were present at the function in NYC.
