7 pm Sunday April 7 on TV Asia – U of Texas Arlington vs U of South Florida !
The University of South Florida Bulls have been the most consistent American College Cricket team since March 2009. The Bulls have only lost in the final four, or the Finals (2009 to Montgomery College, 2012 to York College).
Their batting line up boasts 2012 Championship MVP Sai Ramesh and MVP runner up Abdullah Sheikh – the 2 highest run scorers in 2012, plus newcomer Krunal Bhange, who scored 127* in 73 balls in the 2012 South East Regionals.Returning as an alumni is former Captain Harsha Boddepalli who scored the first century, 133, in American College Cricket (in 2010).
However in the QuarterFinals vs old rivals Montgomery College, it was up to the bowling and fielding to give USF the victory in a tight low scoring match. The support of their spnsor “Children across Borders” was well-founded.
Both Ramesh & Sheikh were 2 of the top wicket takers in 2012 and Ramesh came into the Final Four having wrecked the U of South Alabama Jaguars with 5 wickets for 8 runs ! Nazeer was also bowling well for USF.
University of Texas Mavericks was just begun in Feb 2013 when Umer Syed contacted Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President. The team got treemdous local community support from Samosa Hut & Grill, Currytos Restaurant & Dallas Premiere League. Playing in a “wild card” slot as a new team, UTA looked extremely strong in the prelims, with Sangwan,Syed and Jadeja getting 50’s as the team piled up high scores including 200 for 4 vs. Boston University. Syed,Ranghuwanshi & Nagra led the bowlers.
However a tight match vs U at Buffalo Bulls showed the first signs of vulnerability by the Mavericks, as their bowlers pulled out the win.
The UTA Mavericks vs USF Bulls final four match will be shown, ball by ball on TV Asia at 7 pm on Sunday April 7, with slo motion replays, graphics etc in a 12 camera first class production.
This is the 22nd American College Cricket match on TV – commentators are Jamie Lloyd,David Sentance, Lloyd Jodah, Tim Shirriffs and Darren Stortz.
