World’s # 1,Chanderpaul launches American College Cricket Hall of Fame !
At a Press Conference in New York City the world’s current # 1 ranked batsman, Shiv Chanderpaul,on Thursday announced the launch of the American College Cricket Hall of Fame on the 4th anniversary of his involvement in American College Cricket.
Chanderpaul made the announcement at the sparkling new Resorts World Casino in Queens,New York City where “An Evening with Brian Lara & Shiv Chanderpaul” will be held Saturday December 15. The event is organized by Romeo Hitlall and RH Entertainment. Other West Indian greats Courtney Walsh, Clive Lloyd and Jimmy Adams are expected to also be there to meet, greet, sign autographs and take photos with fans. The evening will also feature a DJ and live band for West Indian-style partying ! TV Asia will cover the event, and American College Cricket players will be part of the event.
The Hall of Fame will recognize American College Cricket players who have left indelible legacies on the game, in the USA and Canada, by their performances on and off the field. Last year American College Cricket worked with the National Baseball Hall of Fame on the occasion of the historic cricket exhibit “Swinging Away – how Cricket and Baseball connect” and it was a reminder of the role of a Hall of Fame in preserving the legacy of players and the a sport.
American College Cricket was founded in October 2008 by Lloyd Jodah, and from December 2008 Chanderpaul has been the Patron and Brand Ambassador for American College Cricket. College teams in USA and Canada play for the Chanderpaul Trophy each year in March.
American College Cricket has grown from zero teams to over 70 in 4 years, as it has motivated the development of cricket at the college-level – the “grass roots” of all major American sports historically.
Focused on more than just playing the game, American College Cricket has brought cricket mainstream attention it had not received since the early 1900s in America- in College media plus the New York Times, Washington Post, NY Daily News, Sun Sentinel, Canada’s Globe and Mail and many more USA and Canadian media.
In March 2010 American College Cricket did the first webstream of domestic cricket in USA and Canada, then in October the first TV broadcast. Now viewers can see American College Cricket matches every Saturday on TV Asia – as part of American College Cricket and TV Asia’s exclusive partnership !
This Saturday Dec 15, the first inductee(s) in the American College Cricket Hall of Fame will be announced !
