Two centuries in NYC High School League-none by Chris Gayle !
The PSAL continues to provide a model, with the New York City public high school cricket league ,of how to do youth cricket, in the 2nd week of the 2011 season:
Don’t dismiss youth of cricket-playing background as not “mainstream Americans” – they are, and they’re playing cricket when given the opportunity.
We don’t have all the results of the 2nd week but TWO centuries were scored :
Ishtiak Hossain of Lehman High School (in photo) scored 129 (14 x 4’s, and 4 x 6’s) against Thomas Edison High School.
Saqib Shahid of Sheepshead Bay High School scored 120 (8 x 4’s and 8 x 6’s) against John Bowne High School.
In related news, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall will join Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe Monday, May 9th at 11 a.m. to officially reopen a cricket field in Baisley Pond Park. American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah and USA Cricket Secretary John Aaron will be among the attendees.
Baisley Pond Park is used by local leagues, high school and College Cricket. In 2009, then American College Cricket Champion Montgomery College played 3 games there.
