NYC High School Cricket Season begins ! Zafrar Abrar (FDR HS)hits century !
The quiet revolution that began in NYC 4 years ago resumed as the 4th NYC PSAL high school cricket season began on Monday, April 11.
The league began in 2008 with 14 teams, but there are now 26 teams split into five divisions – one in the Bronx and two divisions each for Queens and Brooklyn. Approximately 400 high school players will compete. Many more schools wanted to field teams this year but city budget constraints might have prevented the further expansion of the league.
Many games will be played this year at the gorgous Baisley Pond Park field, which New York City spent over $ 4 Million to renovate resulting in a beautiful ground for high school and college cricket.
New York Cricket Region U19 Zafar Abrar of Franklin D. Roosevelt registered the first century of 2011 PSAL cricket season.
