American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah said, “As our strategic partner BIG League USA has been quietly delivering on its promises to American College Cricket players, and recently provided the Stadium for the Southeast Championship. Additionally, the newly formed BIG Broward Cricket Academy provides coaching for nearby college players from UMiami, FIU and FAU. Now the opportunity to meet the dynamic Gordon Greenidge and receive coaching tips will certainly be a highlight in any young cricketer’s career.”
Jodah added, “Actually when I saw Adrian Gordon NYU-Poly bat for the first time in 2009, he opened the batting and took apart the bowling, it reminded me of Gordon Greenidge !”
The occasion is the Finals of the recently formed BIG Broward Cricket League which is wrapping up the first season of domestic League cricket at the Stadium, where the BIG Broward Cricket Academy is also based. The tireless Nino DiLoreto manages both.
Had he played college cricket he would certainly belong on the Miami Hurricanes, as “hurricane” described his batting style. Cricinfo said of Gordon Greenidge “Attacking was in his genes. With Desmond Haynes he formed what was by a distance the most enduring and prolific opening partnership of them all, with 16 century stands, four of them in excess of 200.” In their partnerships together Greenidge and Haynes scored 6.482 runs. Greenidge also played for Scotland, and English County cricket for Hampshire.
As a Coach, Greenidge guided Bangladesh to become the ICC Trophy Champions and earned the chance to play in their first World Cup in 1999. He continued to coach them during the 1999 World Cup, where their performance contributed to Bangladesh being elevated to Test status.
All American College Cricket players are invited to meet the West Indian great, and receive batting and bowling tips from the accomplished coach on Sat, Dec 18.
