Shiv Chanderpaul awarded county cap honor by Lancashire

Shiv Chanderpaul has achieved the distinction of being awarded a county cap by English County Lancashire. The top West Indian batsman was presented with the cap on September 15.

In 13 innings Chanderpaul has played for Lancashire county this season so far he has scored 698 runs,averaging 58.16,including 2 centuries and five 50s. The always reliable left-hander reached 19,000 runs in his First-Class career, at an average of 54.46. His highest First Class score is 303*.

Earlier this year Chanderpaul became # 10 on the list of Top Test run scorers of all time. Chanderpaul has been particularly successful since 2000 when foot surgery rectified a problem he had endured all of the cricket career.

LCCC Cricket Director Mike Watkinson said: “Shivnarine has had a huge impact on the club since his arrival and has illustrated his undoubted world class qualities as an international cricketer.Chanderpaul has been brilliant,…..he is the type of player we need in County Championship cricket.”

The Chanderpaul Trophy is awarded to the national champions at the annual American College Cricket Spring Break Championship – Chanderpaul having the foresight to give his support to cricket in America.
