Cricket’s huge popularity in Digital Media in USA & Globally


Whilst many Desi children in the USA & Canada have grown away from cricket, the game nevertheless is surging in digital popularity in the USA – a fact that was not being taken advantage of until American College Cricket came along.
The British might be doing their best to kill one of their greatest creations (no Olympics for cricket, less cricket in schools, no free cricket on TV) but the Internet is showing an enormous increase in interest in the game globally.

Cricinfo.com averaged 5.8 million unique visitors a month in 2009, an 85 percent leap from 2008. This past January, traffic surged to a record 8.8 million uniques, fueled by the premier Tri-Nation Series event. More recently, Cricinfo.com drew 700,000 unique visitors in the United States alone in April, up 65 percent from the same month a year ago.
Similarly, Yahoo!’s cricket portal, cricket.yahoo.com, garnered 4.4 million unique visitors worldwide in April 2010.

Cricket, a more than 400-year-old sport equated to religion in several countries, is experiencing a massive surge in digital-media programming and consumption that is paying dividends for both domestic and international outlets.
