<div>The top run scorer of American College Cricket&#8217;s 3 national Championships has been York University’s Khushroo Wadia, who scored the most runs in the 2010 and 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championships (6 half centuries in 10 innings).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>This propelled him into the spotlight, and contributed to his selection to make his international debut for Canada.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div>In the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, Khushroo put on 76 for the opening partnership with Jai Patel, then batted nearly the entire innings for 54 runs, before being run out at the end with York U on 162 – they scored 163 for 6 in their 20 overs,and became the Champions !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>York University&#8217;s American College Cricket win gave cricket at the University level a rebirth in Canada, and increased opportunities for young Canadian cricketers. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the 2010 Championship Khushroo had scores of 4, 75*, 38,22, 78 and 54 for a total of 271, average 54.2.</div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the March 2011 Spring Break Championship he smashed 58, 28, 67 and 65 (tied with Adrian Gordon,NYU-Poly for most runs) for a total of 218, average 54.5 . Just about the same as 2010 ! His total in American College Cricket is 10 ins,1 not out, 489 runs, average 54.33 !  </div>
<div>
<div> </div>
<div>It has truly been a priviledge to watch Khushroo and Jai Patel, a left hander who is an exquisite stroker of the ball, play many delightful opening partnerships for York University &#8211; they are unquestionably the best opening pair we have !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div>On his debut in 2011 for Canada, Khushroo smashed 40 runs, 5 fours and 1 six, before he was out with Canada on 62 runs. Among his other scores for Canada were 56,75* and 37. His 56 was against USA and included 8 fours &amp; a 6 in 32 balls!  A bad knee has affected his training since. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Khushroo was selected for the &#8220;All American team” (comprised of the best American College Cricket players) in 2010 and 2011. Very powerfully built and one of the hardest hitters of the ball, Wadia is a technically correct batsman who plays a lot of his cricket in the Toronto District Association league.</div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Khushroo&#8217;s off the field efforts include being a prolific poster of AmericanCollegeCricket.com articles on Facebook &#8211; carrying out one of the mandates of our members that&#8217;s most important. He often asks what more he can do for American College Cricket. </div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Back in March 2010 Khushroo had the pleasure of playing on the first webcast of domestic cricket in the USA and Canada when American  College Cricket broadcast 3 games, he said his friends and family in Toronto and Kuwait watched,</div>
<div><em>    &#8220;American College Cricket Media coverage is the best ! My parents saw the Finals (in 2010) in Kuwait on the webcast – thank you for that !<br />
     As a result Cricket Canada is giving more recognition to college cricket.&#8221;</em></div>
<div><em></em> </div>
<div>Khushroo is currently finishing his degree in business whilst studying for the CGA (Canada&#8217;s equivalent to the CPA).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div>Five College Cricket Players of the Year 2011 will be declared, in no special order. Selection criteria includes off the field and on the field performances. </div>
<div><a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Khush1.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-8175" title="Khush1" src="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Khush1-300x232.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="232" /></a></div>

<div> </div>
<div>American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah said, &#8220;Congratulations to Ryerson and we hope to see them in Florida. It&#8217;s great to see our guys at York University get to the Finals -as 2010 American College Cricket Champions they have set the bar high for Canadian schools.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>A superb performance too by Sheridan College &#8211; we look forward to seeing them in March. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>McGill University has a unique position in sports history in the USA and Canada, having played key roles in the beginnings of football, basketball and hockey.</div>
<div> </div>

<p>The Auty Cup 2 day match got underway at the Toronto Cricket Skating &amp; Curling Club (<a href="http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=141+wilson+avenue+toronto&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=0x882b328c7dfefec1:0xfb79efb47df8c822,141+Wilson+Ave,+Toronto,+ON+M5M+4N9&amp;gl=ca&amp;ei=u61JTo_sCZHC0AHl1IHrBw&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=geocode_result&amp;ct=title&amp;resnum=4&amp;ved=0CD8Q8gEwAw" target="_blank">141 Wilson Avenue</a>).  The Auty Cup is recognized as the oldest international sporting fixture in the world ( not by the same name), being first played between Canada and the USA in 1844.</p>
<p>Winning the toss and putting Canada into bat on a track that was sure to provide some entertaining cricket, the American bowlers did reasonably well to keep the Canadian 1st innings within reach.  After a somewhat cautious start Canada steadily progressed to a first innings total of 239 for 4 from 45 overs.</p>
<p> Canadian opener <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/canada/content/player/414248.html" target="_blank">Hiral Patel</a> continued his strong festival form compiling a well molded 75 from 85 balls and held key partnerships with <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/canada/content/player/26060.html" target="_blank">Khurshroo Wadia</a> (37) and <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/canada/content/player/307077.html" target="_blank">Rustam Bhatti</a> (53), both of York University, the 2010 American College Cricket Champions. </p>
<p> The innings climaxed with an explosive knock from <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/canada/content/player/348129.html" target="_blank">Nitish Kumar </a>(58 from 45) which included some classic offside stroke play and a massive six, played on the rise, which landed on Wilson Avenue. Kumar recently scored 2 centuries for Canada&#8217;s Under 19 team in Ireland</p>
<p>The American innings started with some confusion as poor running between the wickets and some sharp Canadian fielding claimed the first two US batsmen.  The rest of the top order had little answer to the bowling of Canadian seamers <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/41224.html" target="_blank">Khurram Chohan</a> (3-40 from 11 Overs) and debutant <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/canada/content/player/414251.html" target="_blank">Manny Aulakh</a> (1-46 from 10 overs).  Aulakh was top bowler for the Canadian Under 19 team in Ireland.</p>
<p>The only resistance came from the US skipper <a href="http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/25880.html" target="_blank">Jignesh Desai</a> (43) and bowling allrounder Bim George (31) as the US were all out for 166 in 42.4 overs. </p>
<p>Canada head into day 2 holding a convincing 73 run lead and will look to continue their strong from.  </p>
<p>This new and exciting 2 day format gives each team two innings of 45 overs each.  Second day&#8217;s play commences Tuesday at 9:30am and will complete by 4:30pm.</p>

<div>Increasingly, when picking a University many top students are looking for colleges with cricket teams. American College Cricket has made that an option in the past 2 1/2 years, by motivating the organization of formal clubs in schools where none existed before.</div>
<div>
<p>The American College Cricket National &amp; Regional Championships give these schools high profiles in key demographics for students&#8217; recruitment. To our knowledge, in 2011 alone at least 4 of our teams&#8217; college Presidents have made students recruiting trips to India - now those schools have a valuable tool in their cricket team.</p>

<div> </div>
<div>We looked at Bloomberg Businessweek&#8217;s recent rankings of BUSINESS SCHOOLS, at the Undergraduate and MBA levels, and highlighted the top ranked universities which are members of American College Cricket, (the numbers next to the schools&#8217; names represent their Businessweek rank).</div>

<div><span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;"> </span><span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;"> </span></div>
<div>The first international sporting event, in 1844, was a cricket match between USA and Canada, marking the first time that 2 sovereign entities (countries) did battle on a playing field, not a battle field.</div>
<div>-</div>
<div>Of course since cricket in these parts operates under a cloak of invisibility, not many know or care about this accomplishment.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Before founding American College Cricket, I began a campaign in 2008 to revive this historic series between USA and Canada.</div>
<div>Then last year announced a USA vs Canada College Series to be played annually.<span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;"> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: x-small;">-</span></span></div>
<div>Cricket Canada, taking a cue from American College Cricket, makes a definitive move to revive this remarkable rivalry by inviting the USA Cricket Association to send a team to play a two day game against Canada at the Ethad Summer Festival.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>There will be a 20/20 tournament over the first 4 days between Canada, USA, Trinidad &amp; Tobago and Afghanistan, followed by the two day game between USA and Canada.</div>
<div>Of course inevitable criticism will happen, that this was done at short notice. However it&#8217;s great that it is being done now, and will hopefully be an annual event.</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>ANDY MOHAMMED </strong></div>
<div>Andy Mohammed is made his debut for USA last year, but a hand injury kept him out of the team since. Andy played for a NY Under 23 team three times against touring 2009 American College Cricket Champions Montgomery College. </div>
<div>In the 2010 Under 19 World Cup Andy stood up to the blistering pace of the Australians&#8217; Alistair McDermott and Josh Hazlewood to make a fine 70. The left hander is one of the USA&#8217;s best.</div>
<div>-</div>
<div>
<div><strong>AKEEM DODSON</strong></div>
<div>Dodson was York College&#8217;s top batsman and wicketkeeper when the college reached the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship. Whilst the school did not make it to the 2010 nationals, Dodson is in the forefront of getting a team ready for 2012.<a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Dodson.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-7038" title="Dodson" src="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Dodson-300x200.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></div>
</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>CHARAN &#8220;RUBAL&#8221; SINGH </strong></div>
<div>Making his debut is 20 year old Charan &#8220;Rubal&#8221; Singh (Radford),an attacking opening batsman who is one of the best fielders in the USA. Marketing major Rubal said, &#8220;I actually take fielding as a seriously as I take my batting. I believe if you score 50 runs and give away 20 runs by your fielding then those 50 runs are not beneficial at all to your team.&#8221;</div>
<div> </div>
<div>As a 14 year old Charan Singh played for Haryana Under 15, before moving to the USA. He is symptomatic of the real talent that&#8217;s often missed &#8211; he was never selected for the USA Under 19 teams. Charan seriously considered choosing Montgomery College because of its successful cricket team.</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>ASAD GHOUS</strong></div>
<div>21 year old Mohammed Asad Ghous has been eager to play college cricket, and recently transferred to Rutgers University &#8211; the 2010 American College Cricket Northeast Championship. Ghous recently spent 1 month training in England and has played 10 games for USA, and is looking forward to playing for Rutgers in the future.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Canadian team has been playing lots of cricket, at home and abroad and will probably come in as favorites to win this game. The team has not yet been named but its likely 2010 American College Cricket Champions York University will supply two of Canada&#8217;s hopes for the future : Khushroo Wadia and Rustam Bhatti.</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>KHUSHROO WADIA</strong></div>
<div>Khushroo recently blasted scores of 40, 56 and 75* playing for Canada in the recently concluded ICC Americas T20 tournament, and ensured they won that tournament. He has been the top batsman in American College Cricket in 2010 &amp; 2011, scoring six 50&#8242;s in 10 innings. Wadia was instrumental in York University winning the Chanderpaul Trophy at the 2010 American College Cricket Championship.</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>RUSTAM BHATTI</strong></div>
<div>Wicket-keeper Rustam Bhatti scored a century in the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship. Before that he captained Canada U 19s at the 2010 Under 19 World Cup and has played for Canada 10 times, including 3 First Class matches and an ODI.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cricket Canada Vice President Ravin Moorthy,who is also a member of the American College Cricket Advisory Board said:</div>
<div>&#8220;We are very pleased to host the 2nd annual Summer Festival. This year thanks to Etihad and Teacher&#8217;s, our partners, we are able to make it a four team event and give some of top players in both the USA and Canada a chance to compete with one of the best T20 sides in the world, Trinidad and Tobago.&#8221; </div>

York University&#8217;s Khushroo Wadia scored the most runs in the 2010 and 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championships ( 6 half centuries in 10 innings). This propelled him into the spotlight, and contributed to his selection to make his international debut for Canada at the ICC Americas T20 tournament being played at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium in Florida.</p>
<p>Seizing the opportunity,opener Khushroo smashed 40 runs, 5 fours and 1 six, before he was out with Canada on 62 runs. He gave them the start to get 130 runs which was enough to defend against the Cayman Islands, earning Canada the victory. He said, <em>&#8220;I feel great about my debut innings , was a bit slow at the start , but I picked up the pace after the initial overs.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>In the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, Khushroo Wadia and Jai Patel put on 76 runs for the opening partnership and Wadia went on to bat nearly the entire innings for 54 runs, before being run out with York University on 162 &#8211; they scored 163 for 6 in their 20 overs. York College of NYC couldn&#8217;t match the daunting total and York University became the Champions !</p>
<p>For Khushroo &#8220;<em>It was a great feeling winning the 2010 American College Cricket Championship. It was York University&#8217;s first year in the tournament and being the only Canadian university in the tournament and winning the Chanderpaul Trophy was an accomplishment.</em></p>
<p><em>The Media coverage is the best ! My parents saw the Finals (in 2010) in Kuwait on the webcast &#8211; thank you for that !<br />
As a result Cricket Canada is giving more recognition to college cricket. Now a combined college team plays against top teams in the Toronto league. Ravin Moorthy* in particular has been very supportive.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>So what&#8217;s life been like since you were selected to represent Canada in the ICC Americas tournament ?</p>
<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great experience being selected. I&#8217;ve been training with the Canadian team &#8211; lots of fielding practice and practice games.I am constantly learning and want to keep improving.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>The USA Team includes 2 players you&#8217;ll know from the American College Cricket Championships &#8211; one of the USA&#8217;s fastest bowlers, Adrian Gordon (NYU-Poly) and Akeem Dodson (York College) who you played against in the 2010 Finals.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;This demonstrates the high standard of American College Cricket. Akeem Dodson is a good player , Canada vs USa is always an intense game .. lol. I&#8217;ll try to keep a blank mind when I face Adrian Gordon , I&#8217;ll watch the ball, not the bowler.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>James Brown was known as the &#8220;hardest-working man in show-business&#8221;, are you the hardest hitting batsman in Canada ?<br />
<em>&#8220;Rizwan Cheema is the hardest hitting batsman in Canada&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Well, a powerfully built man, who works out regularly, Wadia is probably the hardest hitting batsman in College Cricket. Wadia was born in Pune, India and his family later moved to Kuwait where he began playing cricket at age 13. He represented Kuwait at the Under 17 Asia Cup when he was 15 then later moved to Canada. He began playing league cricket then saw a hastily pulled together York University team winning the Chanderpaul Trophy open up more opportunites for young players,he said,</p>
<p><em>&#8220;Players get recognition as the American College Cricket Semi finals and Finals are covered live . Any team and individual performances are well recognized.<br />
Also the Spring Break Championship was different, and a good break the usual. Our university team got to tour another country and playing and competing with university teams in the States was good fun. The Ft Lauderdale cricket stadium is a treat to play on.&#8221; </em><a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/YorkU20102.jpg"><em><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-6872" title="YorkU2010" src="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/YorkU20102-214x300.jpg" alt="" width="214" height="300" /></em></a><a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/YorkU20102.jpg"></a></p>
<p>Khushroo&#8217;s favorite batsman, and cricketer is M.S Dhoni, who led India to the 2011 World Cup title and his favorite bowler is Shoiab Akhtar .So what&#8217;s Canada&#8217;s new batsman like off the field ?<br />
&#8220;<em>I&#8217;m completing my degree in business, whilst pursueing my CGA (Canada&#8217;s CPA). I listen to Bollywood music, read and like science fiction movies. Then there&#8217;s my dog, he&#8217;s very protective of me but a lot of fun once he gets to know you &#8211; I like to take walks with him.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>Right now I&#8217;m focused on doing my best for Canada and making it to the T20 World Cup. Incidentally today I met a lot of the Umpires from American College Cricket &#8211; they are officiating the ICC Tournament.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>At the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship York University was one of the strongest teams, but a crucial loss kept them from making the final four. Wadia was amazing with the bat, scoring 58, 28, 67 and 65 (tied with Adrian Gordon NYU-Poly for most runs) earning him a place on the &#8220;All American team&#8221; (comprised of the best American College Cricket players).</p>
<p>In the game against USA Khushroo smashed 8 fours &amp; a 6 for 56 in 32 balls for Canada !</p>
