1st College Cricket Hall of Fame inductee Shiv Chanderpaul & Abdullah Sheikh (USF Bulls)

Here are the College Players of the Year 2012, the new, plus 2 repeat winners, in a year sponsored by Coca Cola !

Abdullah Ashgar Sheikh (USF) - for the past month Abdullah has had a great profile pic - the American College Cricket logo !

Sheikh had a near- MVP performance in the 2012 Nationals. Bowling fast,he took 9 wickets for 115 runs. He scored 268 runs @ 47 runs average, with 3 fifties and a highest score of 88. He also took 5 catches. No wonder he got lots of votes from USF Bulls fans.

At the 2012 South East Regionals his top performances were 21*, 38* & 3 for 9, & 2 for 24.

But it was his promotion of American College Cricket that gave Abdullah the edge, and made him THE College Player of the Year among the outstanding young athletes !

Over Christmas Sheikh got the privilege of playing with Shiv Chanderpaul, putting on a 80 run partnership in a friendly match.

—————————————————————————–

Divya Patel (ASU Red Wolves) - as an all rounder and Captain, Divya shouldered the heavy responsibilities of developing his new team, and getting them to the 2012 Nationals. Then, wanting to play in a Regional, once he heard 2 new colleges nearby had joined American College Cricket, he worked hard to organize the first South Central Regional.

Under Divya’s leadership, Arkansas State won the South Central Regional. Patel’s on field performances included 70* vs Memphis, and 2 for 27.

Divya was also a top vote getter but most importantly, its student-leaders like Divya Patel who make the American College Cricket movement successful. He is also a candidate for Top Newcomer, Top Club President, & Arkansas State Cricket is a nominee for Top New Club !

—————————————————————————————

Anurag Verma (Texas A & M) broke onto the scene at the 2012 South West Championship as an exciting left handed stroke player who made 44, 67 & 54 with glorious strokes and was a big contributor to Texas A & M winning the first South West Championship. The entire Texas A & M club did a wonderful job of organizing the South West Regional, on their recently acquired cricket field.

At the 2012 Nationals, his team, Texas A & M extended their unbeaten streak to 11 matches as Verma helped his team even when he did not score big (e.g a 60 run opening partnership of which he scored 20). He also bowled and had 2 for 25 as his best. In the Semis against York College he was run out for 12 as the Aggies lost.

Additionally Anurag’s Aggies team mates & supporters set our Facebook Page afire early with votes for 2012 Player of the Year, and apparently his play impressed someone else, as he got married !

————————————————-

Mohammad Suleman (York College) is one of American College Cricket ‘s biggest promoters on Facebook, posting articles to his personal FB profile, as well as the York College group.

In 2010, together with Lloyd Jodah,he started the York College club & bowled medium pace, then came back in 2012 in a supporting role, and as a spin bowler. Here are his astonishing bowling stats in 2012 :

Nationals – 4 for 18 vs Houston Cougars, 3 for 12 vs Auburn, 2 for 26 vs NYU-Poly, 3 for 16 vs Cleveland State, 2 for 10 vs Texas A & M, 2 for 23 vs USF

North East Regionals - 2 for 21 vs Princeton, 4 for 14 vs Cornell, 4 for 7 vs Harvard, 1 for 23 vs Rutgers.

His 2 wickets in the Finals, including that of Championship MVP Sai Ramesh, effectively put the brakes on what seemed like a certain win for USF, earning Suleman the Finals MVP Award.

His consistent promotion of American College Cricket on Facebook earned him the opportunity to meet Shiv Chanderpaul, Brian Lara, Clive Lloyd,Courtney Walsh and Jimmy Adams and he presented the American College Cricket/TV Asia Award to Brian Lara !

—————————————————————————————–

Kartik Radhakrishnan (Virginia Tech) is a batsman and off spinner on the Hokies team that participated in their first National Championship in March. Kartick had a number of key allround performances for the team in 2012: 2 for 19 vs Texas Tech, 21 and 2 for 13 vs Penn State and 50* and 2 for 19 vs UMBC.

Most importantly the work of Kartik and the Club enabled Kartik to break new ground for cricket by being selected as Virginia Tech Male Athlete of the Year 2011 (out of 31 VT Sports Clubs). The VT Cricket Club also is one of the few college clubs with its own cricket field.

At first no votes came in for Kartik, but his supporters later voted in large numbers to boost his candidacy !

—————————————————————————————-

Haider Ali (Rutgers) became the first cricket player to hit a century on TV in the US & Canada smashing 119 in 47 balls at a strike rate of 253.19, hitting 11 sixes & 9 fours against Boston University ! He followed it up with 53 in 36 balls vs York College in the Finals – both innings shown on TV Asia in all their splendor ! Ali made 0 & 71 in the preliminary matches.

At the Spring Break Championship he scored 58, 54, 35 and 40 ! In 8 innings in 2012 he scored 430 runs, average 53.75, making Haider the top scorer in college cricket in 2012.

Disappointingly, though a favorite of his team, Haider got practically NO votes from Rutgers players and fans, but his batting was so outstanding that he had to be a College Player of the Year !

—————————————————————————————–

Harsh Desai (Ryerson University) - the Ryerson team included a 6’5 (Warren Rajroop) and a 6’3 (Rayyan Pathan) fast bowlers but it was Harsh Desai, at around 5’9 who bowled some superb bouncers, that resulted in wickets ! Not pitched that short, & moving into the chest, they were very difficult to play & Desai was the MVP of that North East tournament, taking 17 wickets !

At the 2012 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship Harsh took 2 wickets for 7 runs, 3 for 6 runs and 2 for 10. In the Quarter Finals when he did not get wickets, Ryerson lost.

A tremendous number of his supporters voted for Harsh to make him a 2012 College Player of the Year.

————————————————————————————–

Ricky Nayar (UF ) averaged 114.5 in 7 innings in 2012, with highest scores of 68* and 88* ! (Ricky is one of our 10 Centurions, scoring 101* at the 2011 Nationals). He took 8 wickets at 7.34 runs & a best of 3 for 16. He also wicket-keeps.

A leader for the Gators from the beginning of their “season ball” team in 2010, the Gators batting has usually followed Nayar until the Finals of the 2012 South East Championship when Ricky failed but his teammates did the job.

Nayar & the Gator club has been featured in Gators media a number of times, and they are currently ranked # 2 once again in USA & Canada. They work hard at participating in required club activities, such as working football games, to raise points and funds.

Gators fans supported Ricky by voting for him in large numbers, making him, together with Sai Ramesh, Adil Bhatti and Adrian Gordon repeat College Players of the Year !

——————————————————————-

Sai Ramesh (USF) was the MVP at the 2012 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship. In the Finals Ramesh was leading the USF charge for victory when he was out lbw - the professional way Ramesh took the decision (a correct one) that ended USF’s chances of winning the Chanderpaul Trophy, is as a testament to how the game should be played.

Here are his stats from March – he was not able to play in Nov because of his MBA dissertation:

45 & 2 for 12 , 64* & 3 for 23, 46 & 4 for 9 , 20 & 0 for 9,42 & 0 for 21, 42 & 2 for 34 !

Bowling off spin, took 11 wickets for 108 runs. He scored 259 runs @ 51.8 runs average. Sai took 7 catches in front of and behind the wicket, and had 2 run outs !

Someone else also thought he was an MVP - he got married recently !

———————————————————————————–

For the selection of the Players of the Year we added a new feature – fans were able to vote for the nominees (on the AmericanCollegeCricket.com Facebook Page) and this made even it more exciting as supporters of some players voted in large numbers !

As in ALL American College Cricket Awards promotion of American College Cricket (especially on Facebook & Twitter) is VERY important.

The intent is to have about 5 new, plus repeat College Players of the Year. Points accumulated plus voting made it too close to eliminate any of the Players chosen however, and we felt it was more important to honor the Players than to fit an arbitrary number.

Last Saturday TV Asia showed the 9th TV game of the American College Cricket season, sponsored by Coca Cola, at 7pm - Rutgers University vs York College !

So you start your innnings with a 88 run partnership in 8.3 overs and at 127 for 1 in 12.5 overs your runs per over (RPO) is 10 with Haider Ali, who scored 119 in his previous innings, on 53. Life seems great, as your team is doing this on TV Asia, and being seen all over the US & Canada !

Nisarg Choksi (Rutgers) took successive 6s off Yasin Khan (York)’s opening over, and cleared the fence 5 times, plus 3 fours for 48 in 32 balls. Flicks, cover drives, pulls lighted up Gateway Field as Choksi made the normally excellent York bowling and fielding look as futile.

Word went out to Santa to avoid flying over the Gateway area as Rudolph & the Reindeer were in danger of being hit by cricket balls !

When Haider Ali got the strike he too was Terminator-like, with 4 sixes & 4 fours in his 53, getting out at 127. It would have been extraordinary for the other Rutgers batsmen to keep up the strike-rate and they didn’t – getting to 176 for 7 in their 20 overs. A strong total, and a possible match-winning one !

An excellent first over by Udit Patel, found some edges and Rutgers gave danger man Akeen Dodson a Christmas gift by dropping him - a crucial error ! Dodson, seemingly fueled by Powerade, made Rutgers pay by clearing the fence for 6 sixes in making 47 in 27 balls with 1 four ! His opening partnership of 89 with Shemas Rehman was marginally faster, at 8 overs than Rutgers’ 88 in 8.3 !

Rehman, Santa-like in his red uniform, himself hit the ball with reindeer power for his 58 with 6 fours, then smashed his first of two 6s to bring up his 50 ! York’s 2nd wicket fell at 121 off 12.2, practically identical to Rutgers 127 for 2 off 12.5 !

Though Karan Ganesh got 31, wickets fell as Al Lalbhai struck 3 times, getting 3 for 29, and at 159 for 6 off 16.5 it was a nail-biting finish ! They had to hold the celebratory Egg Nog – York needed 19 in 18 balls !

However Hayat Sikander cracked 3 sixes to crush the hopes of Rutgers that they could upset the national Champions and Santa was bringing the Deryck Jodah Trophy to York College !

Once again York College had shown they could find a way to win, whilst Rutgers played so well, and came so close they could feel great about their chances at the National Championship in March ! Their performance also rocketed them up the Santa’s List (National Rankings) !

The best commentary of the season so far was provided by Jamie Paul Lloyd (of Crichq & New Zealand) and Lloyd Jodah.

SCORECARD & other stats :

Richmond Hill would eventually post 181 for 7 in their 20 overs.Bowling for Atlantis: Jason Greaves 3-0-23-3

Atlantis vs. Richmond Hill

It was only a few weekends ago that Atlantis convincingly defeated Richmond Hill in The Cage and moved on to the EACA’s Power40 Zone “A” finals, so Richmond Hill

had everything to prove that the only way to the EACA’s T20 Blitz would be through the Richmond Hill gate, and it appeared very early that Richmond Hill was prepared to lock and double bolt any such gate.

Winning the toss and electing to take first strike, Richmond Hill, after losing Debo Sankar caught behind for 4 off the bowling of Casper Davis, Jr, and the score on 21, quickly settled down adding 43 for the second-wicket stand and another 110 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership. The runs coming primarily off the bats of Wahid Ward, 40 off 30 balls (3x6s, 3x4s), Zaheer Sadloo, 31 off 32 balls (3x4s), and the match-winning performance of 62 off 32 deliveries from Imran Ali (2x4s, 6x6s). The veteran Ali electrified the small park and threatened surrounding vehicular traffic, as Richmond Hill raced to 157 for 4 in 17 overs, not losing a wicket between the 7th and 16th overs, before losing the next four wickets in as many overs.

The young energetic Atlantis lost the top half of its prolific batting line up within the first nine overs. Had it been the seventh-inning of a baseball game, the hometown patrons would have started exiting the stadium, as it was all but over at that stage. However, Atlantis’ Alex Amsterdam, 13 off 11 balls (3x4s), Jason Greaves, 13 off 16 balls and skipper Prashanth Nair with a quick-fire 16 off 9 deliveries, including successive sixes and a solitary boundary, showed some grit in the ebbing moments of the losing cause.

Richmond Hill was adamant in making an emphatic statement on its way to the EACA’s T20 Blitz final, by taking Atlantis out of its misery and out of the way to the finals, closing out the green and gold boys at 88 all out and five over’s shy of 20.

Bowling for Richmond Hill: Zaheer Sadloo with 4 for 21 off 3.2 overs was the pick of the crop, with Deryck McDonald 3 for 18 off 4 overs and Wahid Ward 2 for 19 off 3 overs. Atlantis would eventually succumb at 88 all out in 14.2 overs, losing by 93 runs.

Meten-Meer-Zorg, led by Ajaz Asgarally would lose its first wicket with the score at 13, with wickets falling regularly at two and four over intervals thereafter. Meten-Meer-Zorg struggled to put together quality partnerships and surely missed USA player Andy Mohamed. Some questioned why the experienced club mentor and skipper Ajaz Asgarally did not bat up in the order. None the less responsible knocks did come off the bats of USA national Under-19 player Amarnauth Persaud, 26 (1×6, 2x4s), with Saud Hussain, 25 not out and Hemendra Ramdihall, also with 25 (2x6s, 2x4s). Meten-Meer-Zorg posted 152 for 7 in their 20 overs at an asking rate of 7.60 per over.

Bowling for Everest/ACS: Saheed Amin with 3 for 25 was the pick of the bowlers with Zamin Amin and Terry Hastoo each grabbing two wickets apiece at a cost of 23 and 33 runs respectively.

Everest/ACS led by the youthful Karan Ganesh and mentored by the veteran Zamin Amin started their quest to another championship final on a similar note, losing their first wicket that of Steve Nowrangilall, 8, with the score on 14. They would lose their second wicket 37 runs later in the sixth over, and a very valuable one in Tamesh Balwant, 22 off 16 deliveries (1×4, 1×6), but still one wicket ahead of their opponent at the same stage. Opener Aun Merchant with 26 off 30 balls (2x4s, 1×6) was intent on staying at the middle while stroking the ball around for the ones and twos. Joined by Gregory Sewdial, 22 off 21 balls, they contributed to building a pathway to an Everest/ACS victory, with Zamin Amin’s contribution of 18 off 12 balls (3x4s) contributing significantly. However, it was the inning of another veteran Terry Hastoo, 36 off 13 deliveries (4x6s, 1×4) and batting at number eight that electrified the crowd. The batsman took the Meten-Meer-Zorg bowling to task, punishing anything short and outside the off stump. He was particularly painful to young Amarnauth Persaud, hitting the bowler for three sixes on his way to the match-winning performance and his team’s tally of 153 for 6 in 18.3 overs.

Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg: Young Trevis Ross with figures of 4-0-26-3 was the pick.

Coming to a Cage near you soon…

Everest/ACS vs. Richmond Hill, two of the EACA’s best will lock horns to the delight of those on the other side of the one-block fenced battleground, this Sunday, September 30th.

But realized if I called an award “The Jodah Trophy” people would assume I was naming it after myself.

Then 2 Sundays ago, I had dinner with my brother Colin Michael, at Boulder Creek Restaurant. We were there accidentally, as I intended to go to Outback Steakhouse which had a special ! Michael has been invaluable with scheduling of our Championships,as well as in other ways – I put my dilemma to him and he came up with a great idea : the Deryck Jodah Trophy ! Yes, though Michael did not get my good looks and brains, he could still come up with an occasional great idea !

Our brother, Deryck (known as Ricky) was killed when, according to reports he was stopped at a traffic light, hit by what may have been a drunk driver from behind, who then left the scene without calling 911. This was in Guyana in 1991 so details were murky & justice not done.Compounding the tragedy, the accident happened on his toddler son’s birthday. Ricky was the only one of my immediate family who never came to NY.

Like every boy in Guyana back then Deryck learned to walk and play cricket practically at the same time. Michael is the eldest then 2 years younger myself, followed by Ricky 2 years later.Though we were 5 siblings my youngest brother Errol and my sister Jacqueline were a bit younger. The 3 of us played cricket every minute until our Mom (Pauline)called, in any space that we found, interspersed with a fight or two-sort of like the NHL, but with more playing.

I was the best batsman (I know Deryck would have disagreed with this, and Michael dismisses it as a rumor I started) until Errol got older, learned from us, and indisputably became better.

As a teenager, Ricky’s cricket took a back seat when he found that he looked like Shashi Kapoor’s twin. Shashi Kapoor was a heartthrob who was the Brad Pitt of Bollywood. Resembling Shashi was a force more powerful than Krptonite, and Deryck couldn’t help but play the field, rather than on the field. Then he met Diane whom he married, and they got a son, Kevin.

Deryck was liked by everyone – and he was the life of the party with older relatives, as well as with his friends and peers. It was amazing how popular he was with people who met him. Just recently I met one of his friends Jerry Persaud, who reminisced about the fun times they shared, particularly at the Georgetown Cricket Club.

As a family of Indian background we were unusually athletic, and played every sport even beyond cricket and later Deryck played squash for fitness.

We grew up amongst a lot of uncles and in the early 1960s my Dad (Manoo Aaron) and many of his brothers played for Gandhi Youth Organization. My uncles Moses & Frank were the best, and Moses became the most well-known.

Living by Bourda Cricket Ground, the Jodah family took in, facilitated, entertained, nurtured and made part of the family most of the top Guyanese batsmen from the 1960′s onwards. The gate, yard and doors of 126 Regent Road (and 125 Regent Rd) saw many of Guyana’s greats pass through: Alvin Kallicharran, Shiv Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sew Shivnarine & Len Baichan played Test cricket. Kallicharran & Baichan scored 100s on their Test debut.

Many more who slept on our beds or floors, ate with us, and played cricket and dominoes with us. Later my brother Errol (long after our part of the family had moved from 126), and my cousins Ritchie & Moses, played with his good friend Carl Hooper, Andy Jackman, a 13 year old Shiv Chanderpaul.

So as a tribute to my brother Deryck (Ricky) Jodah, and the contribution of the Jodah family to cricket, the American College Cricket North East Championship, sponsored by Coca Cola will be played for the Deryck (Ricky) Jodah Trophy.

Matches start at 8 am,11 am & 2 pm on Sat Oct 6 & 7. The Semis & finals on Sunday Oct 7 will be televised by TV Asia. Teams must be present at least 30 mins before gametime. Late teams only will be penalized overs.

Sunday was the Finals of the EACA League Power40 competition in Queens NY - Atlantis Cricket Club vs Everest/ACS Cricket Club, and fans were in attendance, including Banks Beer.

Two principals of EACA, Krish Prasad and John Aaron are on the Advisory Board of American College Cricket, and Rudy Persaud, President of the EACA (Eastern American Cricket Association) is a strong supporter of us. Hugh Pitter of Gateway Oval where we televise the North East Championship from, was also present.

Captaining Everest/ACS was York College all rounder Karan Ganesh, who seems to score runs every time I see him bat. Ganesh was a key factor in York College winning the Chanderpaul Trophy at the 2012 American College Cricket National Championship, and is one of the top all rounder batsmen in the USA.

Captaining John Aaron’s Atlantis Cricket Club was 19 year old Prashant Nair (CCNY) who played in last year’s American College Cricket North East Championship, and represented USA in the ICC Under 19 World Cup Qualifiers in Ireland.

Over the past 2 summers I’ve had the pleasure of watching Atlantis, managed by Lester Hooper, in action on an occasional Sunday as I’ve chatted with John. I even joined them for some Wedding food when their wicketkeeper Ryan Sookdeo got married !

Everest/ACS won the toss and batted first. Nicholas Standford took 2 early wickets to make it 29 for 2 before Greg Sewdial (Hofstra U) 91, and Balwant 34 put on 99 runs.Sewdial’s 91 came off 68 balls and included 15 fours & 1 six. Photo: Karan Ganesh (York College)

Karan Ganesh then treated the bowlers imperiously, dispatching the balls expeditiously like some kind of ninja batsman. Ganesh’s 88 came off 55 balls, with 7 fours & 6 sixes !

Amsterdam took 5 wickets for 58, but really the Atlantis bowling was not effective beyond Standford’s early wickets.

Set 282 and a scoring rate of 7.05 to win, Atlantis’s batting line up was strong, including Nicholas Standford and Kaveshwar Bridgepaul. Bridgepaul had wrecked havoc in the PSAL high school league & the NYPD United Cricket league, and had made a come back from a stabbing he suffered when he was surprised and mugged by a gang.

Photo: Gateway Oval’s Hugh Pitter

Blades 23, Amsterdam 14,Standford 33 and Bridgepaul 12, all looked threatening briefly, before losing their wickets.

With Atlantis sinking, recently married Sukdeo might not have been so eager to go home, so he stuck around and smashed 22 with a 4 & 2 sixes.

All four Everest/ACS bowlers bowled well with S Amin taking 2 for 49, T Walke 2 for 40 whilst former USA Captain Zamin Amin took 4 for 20 and Man of the Match Karan Ganesh took 2 for 17 as Atlantis went under for 128. So Everest/ACS once again emerged Champions of the EACA League in the 40 over competition !

The day was memorable for me too, as I met Zinul Mohammed, a man who played cricket with my father and uncles in the 1960s for Gandhi Youth Organisation, and on Jan 25 1970, Zinul flew on the same plane, and landed at JFK Airport with my Uncle Moses, the first Jodah to immigrate to the USA ! Photo: Zinul & Lloyd

Of course I had known that the first apartment my Uncle Moses stayed at in NYC, was owned by Krish Prasad !

<g:plusone href="http://americancollegecricket.com/2012/05/04/road-to-a-national-championship/" size="tall" ></g:plusone>
by Mohammad Suleman.

York College Cricket Club earnestly thanks American College Cricket and its President/Organizer/Founder Mr. Lloyd Jodah. We would also like to congratulate all the participants for a successful 2012 Spring Break Championship that was held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. from March 14-18, 2012.

York College Cricket Club started in spring of 2010 with the help of American College Cricket president Mr. Lloyd Jodah. Within two months, Cardinals put together the team and registered to compete in 2010 Spring Break Championship where York C were the runner-up after a big loss to York University from Canada. In the same year, 2010 American College Cricket North-East Regional Championship, York lost to City Tech (CUNY) in a thriller.

In the year, 2011 York Cardinals struggled to put together a team for 2011 National Championship due to exam schedule and lack of resources. However, York Cardinals came back strongly in 2011 Regionals and won the title after defeating NJIT in the finals. All the games in 2011 Regionals were televised by TV Asia. It was the best thing that happened to US Cricket in ages.

Year 2012, brought great success for York College Cricket Club. Coming strongly from winning the Regional title just 2 months ago, York Cardinals were committed and ready to take on any challenge. I would like to highlight the hard work of newly elected Club President, Shamas Rehman and Team Captain Khizar Abbas, working hand to hand with Club members, Hayat Sikandar, Bilal Shahid, Akeem Dodson, Yasin Khan, Kashif Choudry, Mudassir Hussain, Hugo D O’Liveira, and Rodigan Micheal. The addition of Karan Ganesh on the team was tremendous.

Cardinals entered the National arena with being one the favorites. York Cardinals defeating NYU-Poly, Auburn and University of Houston Clearlake in the first round, went on to beat Cleveland State in the play-offs and qualified for Semi-finals. On the other hand, USF and York University earned a spot in the Semi’s.

Sunday, March 18, 2012.

The stage was set. Sunny Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Was ready to host the Semi-finals and Final of 2012 American College Cricket Spring Break National Championship at the only ICC certified Cricket stadium in the United States of America. Coca Cola sponsored the event and TV Asia was there to cover the historic event. The crowd was building to witness a great day of action. The night before, back at Hotel, I tried learning how to swim. I was somewhat successful. Then I had a little laugh about people confusing York College with York University. USF moved into the finals after beating York University in the first Semi-final of the day.

Secondly, York Cardinals faced previously undefeated Texas A&M University. Texas A&M bowling first, got off to a ideal start by removing Bilal and Akeem very early. But, calm and smart Karan Ganesh and aggressive hitting by Captain Abbas set up a reasonable total of 147. In reply, Texas A&M were bowled out for 76. “This set up York to take on the University of South Florida in the final match, a team that has reached the Final Four in three of the past four seasons.”

(York College Cardinals vs. University of South Florida)

Caridnals batting first scored 151/8 in 20 overs. Akeem Dodson top scoring 78 with Karan Ganesh adding 35 to the total. In reply, USF got off to a fiery start with their openers Sai Ramesh(MVP- 2012 Nationals) and Asgher Shiekh aka Abdullah. Some power hitting by both openers led to change in tactics and York College Captain brought the spin earlier than planned. Interestly, he brought me (Mohammad Suleman –Final MVP) on and I got the break-through for the team.

On the other hand, Sai Ramesh partnered with Indawalla continued their impressive stroke-play and built a strong partnership of 72. Things were looking bright for USF and they were sensing a victory here. I was there for the team. Team believed in me, and skipper brought me on for the second spell. I got the big fish. This changed everything for us. USF’s middle order collapsed. Cardinals were pumped up and had their hopes up again. Also, Bilal Shahid and Yasin Khan generated good pace in their second spells with a mix of slow balls and got 2 wickets each. Karan Ganesh bowled handsomely outside off and bagged 2 wickets aswell. Finally, USF were bowled out for 129. York Cardinals were declared Champions of 2012 Nationals.

I would like to congratulate all our Club members, College, fans, families and friends and Organizers for this great achievement. The Championship was well-organized and well structured. There was no secret to our success. It was all hard work and commitment. Some great all round performances, variation of pace and Spin bowling, attacking and well planned classy stroke playing, sharp fielding and lightning glove work. It was a job well done.
