<div>In Fall 2012 TV Asia &amp; American College Cricket partnered to film &amp; broadcast a full season of American College Cricket, to follow the 6 done last year, and the 3 from the National Championship in March !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>A total of 20 College teams got the dream of playing on TV this year &#8211; as Mastercard would say, &#8220;that&#8217;s priceless !&#8221;</div>
<div>Priceless for the players, and priceless for the game &#8211; giving it a visibility and credibility few imagined possible. And what could be better for the marketability of the game in the USA &amp; Canada than young athletes chasing &amp; diving after balls, competing passionately as young athletes will !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>So this Saturday watch the University of South Florida Bulls try to wrest the South East title from the University of Florida Gators ! The Gators lost the Sugar Bowl but&#8230;. </div>
<div>7 pm on TV Asia in USA &amp; Canada</div>
<div> </div>
<div>TV Asia is a TV channel available on ALL major cable systems in USA &amp; Canada. You can also get it on college campuses, for a small fee annually paid by the school, &amp; then its free for the students. Details available on the TV Asia website.</div>

<div> </div>
<div>In October 2010 the Gator Cricket Club had finally been motivated by American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah to begin a hard ball team, and prepare for competitive cricket. American College Cricket helped equip the club with uniforms and equipment. Being part of the national organization elevated the profile of the club immensely.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Auburn Tigers blanketed the Stadium&#8217;s pristine outfield with their passion and teamwork, to earn the South East title, to follow their final 4 finish in the March National Championship.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>November 2011, the tables were turned as University of Florida defeated Auburn in another hard fought South East Finals ! This year however it could be Roll Tide time as the boys at the University of Alabama get ready for their first American College Cricket tournament ! </div>
<div> </div>
<div>One of the founding pillars, the University of South Florida Bulls has been the most consistently high performing club in American College Cricket Nationals : in 2009 they were a Finalist, in 2010 a final four, 2011 undefeated &amp; missing the final 4 on points,and in 2012 a Finalist ! Will this be the tournament they get a hard-earned title ?</div>

<div>
<div>The University of Florida &#8220;Scholar Athlete of the Year&#8221; is an award given to one student selected from 42 sports clubs at the annual competitive sports banquet in UF. The main criteria for this award is that the selected student should be associated with the club activities on and off the field and have shown excellent academic achievement. </div>
<div> </div>
</div>
<div>
<div>
<div>American College Cricket&#8217;s Gator Cricket Club President Vijay Pappu was last night declared UF&#8217;s &#8220;Scholar Athlete of the Year&#8221; !</div>
<div>Vijay said, &#8220;<em>We would like to keep this award in GCC for years to come as there are many in our club who deserve it as much as I do.&#8221;</em></div>
<div><em></em> </div>
<div>Vijay expects to graduate with his 3rd MA, in Management and his PhD in Operations Research in Dec 2013. He earned  his first Master&#8217;s at Rutgers in 2008, in Mechanical &amp; Aerospace Engineering. He worked for 2 years before enrolling at the University of Florida in Fall 2010.</div>
<div>
<div> </div>
<div>There he earned his 2nd Master&#8217;s, in Industrial Systems Engineering in Fall 2011 at UF.</div>
<div> </div>
</div>
<div>Vijay is the President and the Captain for Gator Cricket Club for the academic year 2011-2012. His duties have included organizing internal cricket tournaments at UF, coordinating over 100 hours of community service and fund raising events for the club &#8211; over $1800 has been raised for the club during his tenure.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>&#8220;<em>During my stint as the Captain for GCC, UF won the South East Regional Championship for the first time, I scored 49 in the finals and had a match winning partnership of 97 runs with Ricky Nayar.&#8221; </em>said Vijay. Only a loss to George Washington University prevented the strong Gators from making the Quarter Finals at the nationals in March 2012.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Vijay said:</div>
<div><em>&#8220;Gator Cricket Club has come a long way in terms of its development and I would like to credit American College Cricket for its growth. American College Cricket has given the university cricket clubs across the country a platform to showcase their cricketing skills and compete on a national level, providing high visibility through various media outlets like TV Asia. </em></div>
<div><em> </em></div>
<div><em>The growth of American College Cricket has been exponential in the last 2 years with respect to the publicity, involvement of more universities and the sponsors. Coca-Cola&#8217;s involvement as the official sponsor for the Nationals 2012 goes to show the tremendous potential for the sport in this country.</em></div>
<div><em> </em></div>
<div><em>Personally, I believe, Lloyd Jodah, the President of American College Cricket, is a great visionary and leader, and has played a monumental role in promoting Cricket in North America. He saw the great potential for Cricket in this country and has been promoting the game through the right channels. His vision for the sport is clearly evident in the fact that he was the first to encourage UF to practice with the leather ball and join American College Cricket in Sept 2010.&#8221; </em></div>
<div><a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Vijay4.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-9194" title="Vijay4" src="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Vijay4-300x231.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="231" /></a></div>
<div><em> </em></div>

</dl>
<div>Five College Cricket Players of the Year 2011 will be declared, in no special order. Selection criteria includes OFF the field and on the field performances. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Last year University of Florida&#8217;s Vaibhav Ricky Nayar gave warning when he came close to taking a very new Gators Cricket team to victory in the Finals of the 2010 American College Cricket South East Championship, against SEC rivals Auburn.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the nationals, the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, Ricky scored 181 runs in 3 innings with a Highest Score of 101* (against the Ohio State Buckeyes), averaging 90.5. He also took 9 wickets, including 5 for 16 as the Gators narrowly missed the Semis.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the 2011 Southeast regionals Nayar made 103 in 3 innings,being out only once,resulting in an average of 101. His 58* steered the Gators to victory over Auburn Tigers in the Finals. He took 8 wickets with a best of 3 for 9.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Overall his American College Cricket stats for 2011 : BATTING : 6 matches, 284 runs, 3 NO, 94.67 average, 101* highest score. Bowling : 17 wickets, best of 5 wickets for 17 runs.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In addition, Nayar wicket keeps well for the Gators.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>As Vice &#8211; Captain of the USA Under 15 team at the ICC Americas tournament in 2005 Ricky was the MVP. Later he played for the USA Under 19 team. The 21 year old senior is double majoring majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Unquestionably a star on the field, Nayar humbly plays as part of the Gators team, and does as much as anyone off the field, for American College Cricket, as his Captain Vijay Pappu and previous Club President Krishnarao Dase attest.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Off the field he :</div>
<div>1. helped organize the Fall Gator Cricket Club tournament which raised $ 800 for the club</div>
<div>2. distributed flyers to promote Gator Cricket around UF.</div>
<div>3. volunteered at the Thrift Store and participated in &#8220;Project Downtown&#8221; for community service to help the club go from &#8220;Blue&#8221; to &#8220;Orange&#8221; level (&amp; increased funding from the school).</div>
<div>4. obtained his CPR &amp; First-Aid certificate to satisfy club emergency requirements.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Early in 2011, for the first time ever a cricketer was nominated for Athlete of the Year at the University of Florida (&amp; probably any American or Canadian university in over 100 years) &#8211; that cricketer was Ricky Nayar, the epitome of an American College Cricket player.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>As Ricky said then, <em>“ Thank you and American College Cricket….I got nominated for athlete of the year at UF because of my performances in regionals and nationals of American College Cricket. I never dreamt of this recognition for cricket in college.”</em> </div>

<div>American College Cricket assisted the Club in getting equipment. With very little practice, they played well and, resplendent in uniforms, reached the Finals where they put up a fight before losing to Auburn !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Auburn club, led by Rahul Potghan and Naveen Thiagarajan, had itself become official for the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, when the Auburn admin conferred official status on the club, because it was about to play in the national championship. Now after 3 roadtrips to Ft Lauderdale, the Auburn team was finally able to buy new uniforms and fly !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Now its Nov 2011, and on the beautiful cricket fields of Ft Lauderdale, Auburn and UF  do battle again !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The University of Florida Gators batted first, Vijay Pappu and Hassan Baber opening the batting. The Tigers&#8217; bowlers were not effective, and Pappu and Baber put on 40 runs before Baber was caught off Vibudh for 24 ( 1 four,3 sixes).</div>

<div>However, in walked the dangerous Ricky Nayer who, in 2010, had made a magnificent 64 to almost win the title for UF !  After 15 overs it was 95 for 1, as the Auburn bowlers,especially Vibudh &amp; Vijith kept the pressure on.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Then Nayar turned it on, and brought up his 50 with a six, followed by another. His 58* (455 balls) included 4 fours &amp; 3 sixes, whilst Pappu was run out at the end for 49 (3 four &amp; 1 six in 60 balls).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Nayar &amp; Pappu put on 97 and the UF Gators reached a good total of 149 for in 20. Vibudh finished with 4 overs for 18 runs &amp; 1 wicket, and Vijith 3 overs for 17.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Needing a run rate of 7.5 to win Auburn&#8217;s openers, captain Naveen Thiagarajan and Prassana, both in form, Naveen having struck 59 vs FAU, and Prassana 64 ( 7 fours &amp; 4 sixes) vs USF.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Auburn was going along steadily before Anuj, who took 3 wickets for 2 runs vs USF, struck for UF getting Prassana caught for 13, and Auburn was 43 for 1 in the 7 th over.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>After 10 Auburn was in a great poition on 70 for 1, with Naveen and Shakti going strong. Some great fielding slowed the scoring rate and led to 2 quick run outs, Shakti for 28 ( 2 fours 1 six, 20 balls) and Faraz for 0, making Auburn 102 for 3 after 15.( Gators were 95 for 1 after 15).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Aditya Kasi then took the prize wicket of Thiagarajan for 50 ( 50 balls, 8 fours) and Auburn was now 110 for 4 after 17 . Syam and Vibudh tried to go after the bowlers but eventually the Gators, led by Vijay Pappu got the win by 16 runs !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In the tournament Auburn captain Naveen Thiagarajan made 2 half centuries, 59 and 50 plus featured in a 93 run partnership, of which he made 19. Prassana made a 64, but Championship MVP was definitely Gators&#8217; Ricky Nayar- 2 game winning innings of 25* and 58* and bowling of 2 for 10, and 3 for 15 plus his wicketkeeping !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>With this win of the South East Conference Championship the Gators Cricket Club will soar in the rankings, and now can now utilise this victory to motivate the University of Florida to provide a cricket field &#8211; which would greatly help the club bring a national title to UF ! </div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>University of Florida (USF) vs Florida Atlantic University (FAU) .</strong></div>
<div> </div>
<div>USF and FAU played a game that had implications for national ranking.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>For FAU Stefan Babulal smashed 76 (8 fours 3 sixes)- Babulal is the name the legendary Rohan Kanhai, one of the world&#8217;s greatest batsman ever, was known by ! </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Lakitosh contributed 32 (3 fours &amp; 1 six), as FAU made 129 for 6 in their 20 overs. Arjun took 2 wickets for 20 in 3, and Prashant Pal 1 for 14 in 4 overs.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>For USF, Anshul&#8217;s 46* ( 6 fours 1 six), Viral 33 (3 fours 2 sixes) &amp; opener Abhay (2 fours 1 six) gave USF the victory &#8211; 130 for 5 in 17.4 overs.</div>
