<div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">It&#8217;s difficult to pick a Club of the Year &#8211; all of our Clubs that make it to the Nationals, especially those from outside of Florida, do a lot of work to get there. But we can&#8217;t pat ourselves on the back for accomplishing the minimum &#8211; we have to do a lot more.</span><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></p>
<div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">Use of Social media is extremely important for organisations, causes, businesses and since late 2008 we have been urging our members to learn to use Facebook to promote our cause. Some of you are doing a great job ! Here are the <strong>Top Clubs</strong> on Facebook (mostly powered by the students named) :</span></div>
<div> </div>
<div>
<div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>University at Buffalo</strong> - Ashaab Alam, Parth Parikh</span></div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Texas Tech</strong> - Amit &amp; Vishnu Chaudhary, Arjun Tuli </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>York College - </strong>Mohammad Suleman</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Embry Riddle</strong>   &#8211; Harsh Gothwal, Jerin Chacko</span></div>
<div>
<div><strong>Florida International -</strong> Sagar &amp; Santhosh Reddy</div>
<div>
<div><strong>College of Wooster - </strong>Naman Jain</div>
<div><strong>                                                                                           TOP CLUBS (Overall) 2012</strong><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div>
</div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Boston University :</strong> </span></div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">              One of the 5 pioneering clubs that played in the first American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, BU has played in every national Championship and regionals, getting to the Semis this year &amp; playing on TV Asia. Original players like Shilpin Makwana, &amp; Ankush Chandra remain active in the club with new strong leadership like Hayat Khan.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">This year the club got an article, &amp; produced a superb video, featured in BU media. But the masterpiece was the moving headline Banner, featuring the BU cricketers in action, on the Homepage of Boston University &#8211; it not only gave American College Cricket tremendous visibility among non-cricketers but was an exciting banner by itself !</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">Club President Hayat Khan, with American College Cricket assistance, is working on getting cricket taught as a credit course &#8211; a tremendous development if approved !</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">As we originally intended in 2009, BU helped the development in 2012, of new clubs at Harvard and Northeastern, including playing of practice matches.</span></div>
<div><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Penn State University :</strong>                      </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">                    The club has the distinction of having a qualified <strong>Coach</strong>, on the Penn State staff, who travels with the team. This marks a huge step for American College Cricket which we hope to be emulated in other colleges. The club has also been given good access to practice facilities similar to other club sports at Penn State. Coach David Chakravorty (from Australia) also provided excellent ball by ball TV commentary for the Finals in March.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">Once again, as they did in 2011, Penn State traveled to, and played in 2 regionals: this time the Mid West &amp; Mid Atlantic, such is their enthusiasm for American College Cricket. A young team, they  just missed making the Semis in the Mid Atlantic.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">In April, Penn State University gave the club won the Most Improved Club Award to the Cricket Club.and the leadership of Haris Mohiuddin.</span></div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="mceTemp">
<div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;"> </span></span></p>
<div><strong>Texas A &amp; M University</strong> </div>
<div>                The Aggies started the year by largely organizing the first South West regional in Jan, on their own new cricket field &#8211; and hosted 4 other college teams: West Texas A &amp; M, Texas Tech, UH Cougars and UH Clearlake with American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Texas A &amp; M won the South West Championship in convincing fashion , and continued their unbeaten streak in American College Cricket, earning them a # 1 National ranking !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>At the Nationals they finally were overcome by eventual Champions York College in the final four, after going unbeaten for 11 matches. But the manner in which they conducted themselves won them the &#8220;Spirit of Cricket&#8221; Award.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In the Fall they had their annual internal tournament and ended the year by marshalling hundreds of votes on Facebook for their left handed strokeplayer Anurag Verma as a College Player of the Year !</div>
<div> </div>
<div><strong>Texas Tech University</strong></div>
<div>                                Throughout the year, the club has been vibrant, and engaged in activites that elevate its profile like : Fed Day (where it competed against other Tech clubs in Flag Tag, Dodge Ball, Tug o War etc &amp; was asked, &#8220;Where did you get Coca Cola as a sponsor ?&#8221;) and Sports Club Publicity Day. The club also featured in a photo shoot.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div> </div>
<div>Many members of Texas Tech Raiders Cricket Club, particularly Amit &amp; Vishu Chaudhary, Arjun Tuli and alum Baiju Shah, regularly share AmericanCollegeCricket.com stories on their personal Facebook profiles, doing their part in helping to build our fanbase.</div>
<div>
<div> </div>
<div>Texas Tech took 2 trips to the South West regional in College Station, and to the Nationals in Ft Lauderdale and have been practicing regularly for the upcoming American College Cricket Spring Break Championship in March. Though far from other Texan teams the club is eager to host a regional.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>With its own cricket field Texas Tech is a shining example in our goal to develop infrastructure. However construction may happen on the site,so the Cricket Club has begun to look at what is neccessary to ensure another, hopefully even better field, is acquired.  </div>
<div> </div>
<div>More than any other club, the graduates of the Raider Cricket Club who have moved to different places, have remained supportive in financial &amp; other ways. We hope this example will be emulated by alumni of all our clubs.</div>
</div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>University of South Florida</strong> ;</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">             Another of our pioneering 5 clubs from 2009 USF has been the most consistent club on the field and this year they were Finalists in the Nationals again, &amp; the South East regionals. Their Facebook cover highlights American College Cricket, TV Asia &amp; Coca Cola. </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">USF has been using the CRICHQ app for all their matches (thanks to Satish Hanumanthu) and this has ensured the performances of their top players like 2012 College Player of the Year Abdullah Sheikh, 2012 Nationals MVP Sai Ramesh &amp; centurion Krunal Bhange,got the recognition they deserved, &amp; are recorded for posterity.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">For the 2nd year USF held a large tape ball tournament, where they applied lessons learnt from American College Cricket for Facebook promotion, and webstreaming for their draft they wore formal wear).</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">However, bafflingly they have not received any coverage by their USF media (to our knowledge) in the past 4 years &#8211; the only one of our major clubs to not get this recognition. We hope this is changed soon.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;</span> </div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div>

<div> </div>
<div><em><strong>WEST TEXAS A &amp; M BUFFS vs HOUSTON COUGARS</strong></em></div>
<div> </div>
<div>The West Texas A &amp; M University Buffs team was very new and inexperienced but they drove 10 hours for the opportunity to play in the South Westregionals. WTAMU Dean and Professor E W Henderson even came to watch the game and support the team.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Batting first the Buffs found it tough going against the excellent bowling attck of the UHouston Cougars,4 of whose bowlers took 2 wickets each: Ankit Mehta 2 for 6,Nabeel 2 for 14,Ryan Corns 2 for 9, Ahsan 2 for 17.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>For WTAMU Buffs Shravan made 22 in 7 balls (2 fours) before getting stumped.Rahil made 21 in 23 balls ( 1 four 1 six). At the end Manoj struck a 6 amd finished on 11 runs.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Ryan Corns smashed 47* in 18 balls (5 fours 3 sixes).His opening partner Ahmed made 39 in 19 (6 fours 1 six) to make short work of the 100 runs needed to win, and the University of Houston Cougars advanced to the Finals to meet the waiting Texas A &amp; M Aggies !</div>
<div> </div>
<div><em><strong>FINALS : AGGIES vs COUGARS</strong></em></div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Aggies batted first and once again Hamza and Anurag got them off to a good start,putting on 54 before Hamza was caught by Corns off Nabeel for 27 in 14 ( 1 four 2 sixes). Venkatesh then followed up his 59 earlier in the day with 29 in 21 (3 fours) as he and Anurag put on 58.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>With the score on 150 Anuragh went for 67 in 45 balls (10 fours). Angadh struck a quick 41 in 21 balls (3 fours 2 sixes) as the Aggies amassed 207 to follow up their 208 against Texas Tech !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cougars Captain Shuja was confident his strong batting lineup could get the total, and whhilst Ryan Corns and Ankit Mehta were at the wicket it looked possible. But Corns swept and was caught brilliantly by Ankush for 23 (3 fours) and Venkatesh bowled Mehta for 19 (3 fours).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Only Atiq low in the order showed resistance, striking 3 sixes in his 23 as the University of Houston Cougars team crumbled for 105, and the Texas A &amp; M Aggies were the first South West regional Champions !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Bowling for the Aggies Greyvenstein showed pace and movement and took a wicket, Wasif took 2 for 25, Hamza wrapped up the tail with 2 for 10, whilst Ankush and Venkatesh took a wicket each.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Aggies now get set to travel to Florida where they will be one of the favorites to win the national title in March, at the American College Cricket Spring Break Championship &#8211; to be seen on TV Asia.</div>

<div> UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON CLEARLAKE vs  TEXAS A &amp; M AGGIES</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Texas A &amp; M,the hosts were playing against new team University of Houston Clearlake, which had not yet played a game together. A reasonable opening partnership by Hamza (9) and Anurag of 23 runs was followed by 55 between Anurag 54 in 24 balls (9 fours 2 sixes) and Venkatesh 39 in 24 balls (3 fours 1 six) .</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Another good partnership of 38 between Venkatesh and all rounder Ochert Greyvenstein (14), plus Siddarth&#8217;s 12 took the Aggies to 156 all out.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Spinner SrIkant wrecked the lower middle order taking 4 wickets for 11 runs, whilst the Clearlake guys showed flashes of brilliant fielding despite their cold fingers.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>SrIkant then opened the batting with VKC, and had the Tamu Aggies worried at 88 without loss,albeit a slow start.Then Venkatesh struck getting Sreekant caught by Ankush for 48 (2 fours,2 sixes) in 45 balls. Then followed a collapse mainly due to 2 run outs. VKC scored 47 in 28 balls (4 fours, 1 six).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Clearlake made 129 for 9 in their 20 oversthe Aggies getting the win by 27 runs.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>TEXAS TECH RAIDERS vs WEST TEXAS A &amp; M BUFFS</div>
<div> </div>
<div>J Sandhu cracked the 2nd 50 of the day when he made 59 in 42 balls (4 fours 2 sixes) for the Radiers. He put on 47 with Reddy 26 (2 fours 2 sixes) then 70 with Raiders club President Nihal Shah, who made 30 in 18 balls (2 fours 2 sixes). When Sandhu was bowled by Manoj the Raiders were well set at 146 for 4 in the 15th over. They got to 185 for 9 in 20 with Prabeen getting 2 wickets for 39 runs.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Buffs had driven 10 hours to get to College Station to play in their first competition, and made 77 in response.Saizad got 18 (2 fours), and Shravan 15 (3 fours). J Sandhu wrapped up the tail getting 3 wickets for 17 runs.Mishra took 2 for 4, Gana 2 for 15.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Texas Tech Raiders won. </div>
<div> </div>
<div> UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON COUGARS vs  UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON CLEARLAKE</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Houston Cougars had looked very strong at the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship so with the addition of USA player and 2010 Under 19 World Cup star Ryan Corns they were a severe challenge for the team newly put together by Vivek Kotadia at Houston Clearlake.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Nevertheless the Clearlake guys led by Hamza took it to the Cougars and only 2 batsmen got to double figues for the Cougars. Coming at #3 Ankit Mehta,one of the top batsmen,in the Houston area pulled every errant delivery by the Clearlake bowlers, and even good ones for 4s and 6s, smashing 89* in 39 balls 6 fours 8 sixes).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Opening, Ryan Corns made 37 in 17 balls (5 fours 2 sixes) and played his stylish leaning hook a number of times. Cougars made 154 in 15 overs (the game was reduced) . Shastri bowled his 2 victims and ended with 2 for 16. VKC too 2 for 43.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Clearlake was determinded to give the tough total a go, but the Cougars spin attack was mystifying, Ryan Corns getting 2 wickets for 11, Abbasi 2 wickets for 8. Pacer Haris took 2 for 10.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Clearlake pacer Srikant used his feet well to the spinners, played some delightful shots and made 17, whilst Sachin (not THE Sachin) made 12.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Clearlake finished with 78, losing but very happy with their road trip to particpate in their first tournament, and their first American College Cricket Championship !</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The University of Houston Clearlake Cricket Club had now joined the American College Cricket family, so on this weekend they had acomplished a lot. They were already speaking of the potential of getting their own cricket fields at school, and looking forward to the 2012 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship in March.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Sunday Texas Tech vs Texas A &amp; M then University of Houston Cougars vs West Texas A &amp; M to determine the finalists !</div>

<div>
<div>In a short time the Texas Tech Raider Cricket Club emerged as a strong force within American College Cricket, even before they played in any of our Championships.</div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: Times New Roman;">The Club&#8217;s initiative, and desire to promote cricket,meant they were immediately in sync with the Mission of American College Cricket.Though he prefers to give his team credit, the strong driving force behind the Club, as President these past few months has been Baiju Shah. </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: Times New Roman;">-</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: Times New Roman;">Baiju will graduate this August with a Masters in Management Information Systems, and will be looking for a career opportunity in the USA.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: Times New Roman;">We spoke with Baiju Shah :</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong><em>What&#8217;s your cricket history ? </em></strong>- I was born in India with a World Cup victory just a few years before I was born. Also I saw my Dad playing regional cricket which inspired me to be a part of the same team when I grew up.</span></div>
</div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;">(Baiju was also a part of the celebration in Lubbock of India&#8217;s 2011 World Cup victory). </span></div>
<div>A fast bowler ,Baiji has been playing since he was about 8 years old &#8220;like any other boy in Indian streets&#8221; and never had any formal coaching.</div>
<div><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><em><strong>Highest level played before coming to Texas Tech ?</strong></em> &#8211; I represented my college (Maharashtra Institute of Technology, M.I.T. Pune, India) before I came to Texas Tech. And so I played a lot of Inter-collegiate games in Pune, India.</span></span><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><strong><em> </em></strong></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><em><strong>What do you feel about the opportunities American College Cricket has given you and the Texas Tech team ?</strong></em> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> I see American College Cricket as a huge impact on not just USA Cricket but also on world cricket, specially for the youth. <span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;">For cricket lovers like me, it gave a huge stage to perform on, International stadium and facilities, media coverage and a lot of fan following.</span></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;">It has helped a lot to Texas Tech Cricket as well. Never before did our university cricket team got a chance to move out of West Texas to play competitive cricket on a National stage. And now, a lot of students here know about the Cricket team and the game of cricket itself. </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><strong><em>What have been the challenges, and how has the club handled them at Texas Tech ? </em></strong></span></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><strong><em> </em></strong></span></span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;">The biggest challenge, which I consider to be common for all other universities, was getting funds for the whole trip. Travelling from Texas to Florida with a squad of 15 for a week was a huge task. No university would have sponsored such an expensive trip for a small and unknown club like ours. Texas Tech did help but we were way behind our estimated budget.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;">I then realized, it was up to the players and the committee to face the challenge. We started promoting the game and club through club t-shirts and online fundraisers. That helped us in attracting a lot of eye balls, which in turn helped us in other fundraisers and collecting a lot of donations from the community, local businesses and cricket loving professors. Whatever was short, the players pitched in. </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong><em>What was being at the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship like ?</em></strong> </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;">The whole experience can be described as something like a Cricket Carnival. There were games being played on a number of grounds, cricket loving spectators all around, interviews of players carried on by the sidelines by Mr. Jodah and Mr. DiLoreto and players sitting around the boundaries, some tense, some relieved and some trying to relax before their next game. </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;">Personally, I felt I was treated as an International player. With as much as 30 teams participating, and the way it was organized, there was no doubt about its success and powerful impact on the game in USA. </span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span> </div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span><strong><em>What next for Baiju Shah ?</em></strong> &#8211; As a Texas Tech Cricket player, its almost an end, unless of course if I get a chance to play as an alumnus for the upcoming championships. I graduate in August and will look for a career opportunity in the USA. I would highly prefer a place where I can still get to play competitive cricket.<br />
.<br />
<em><strong>Favorite music ? movies ?</strong></em> &#8211; Hip-Hop, Trance and Bollywood.</div>
<p>When not studying or playing cricket Baiju hangs out with his friends, or plays a bit of table tennis or volleyball. Baiju&#8217;s parents live in Accra,Ghana but visit their hometown of Navsai, India a few months a year, whilst his elder married sister lives in England.  </p>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;">Baiju said he looks forward to continuing to supporting American College Cricket in the years ahead, and we feel great knowing we have resourceful, unselfish, intelligent students and alumni like Baiju to assist us in our Mission of bring back the original American game &#8211; he truly is deserving of being an All American in cricket.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-size: medium; font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> </span></div>

<p>Being part of American College Cricket means a lot of off the field work &#8211; it&#8217;s not merely enough to show up to play but essential to promote the game.</p>
<p>Usually the Club Presidents are the main driving force, but ALL members of the Club are expected to contribute. </p>
<p>It is astounding the amount of organizational and motivational work that goes into a successful club, and the leadership skills learned and exercised are valuable assets for these leaders when they leave their Universities. They will usually have the confidence to get things done. </p>
<p>One student was in an interview with a board of medical professionals for his medical residency, and the board looked through the American College Cricket website, saw the stories on his cricket club, and complimented him on his leadership skills. </p>
<p>The latest of our teams to be recognized by their University is the Raider Cricket Club of Texas Tech. Led by Club President Baiju Shah Texas, and team Captain Rahul Chadha Tech Cricket has quickly become one of the strongest arms of the American College Cricket Mission.</p>
<p> First the team did a Photoshoot so the school could put them in the University&#8217;s Viewbook, which is used to recruit students ! Then the club was named Texas Tech&#8217;s &#8220;Student Organisation of the Year&#8221; out of over 400 organizations ! </p>
<p>Next the Texas Tech Sports Clubs Federation awarded the Raider Cricket Club &#8220;Team of the Year&#8221; !</p>
<p>The Raiders make efforts to get the game attention in their part of Texas, and spread the words of AmericanCollegeCricket.com on Facebook. Imagine what 100 teams like Texas Tech&#8217;s can do for cricket in America !</p>
<div id="attachment_6211" class="wp-caption alignright" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/TesaxTech.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-6211" title="TesaxTech" src="http://americancollegecricket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/TesaxTech-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">A gorgeous photo, with the Stadium Pavillion as the background of the Texas Tech Raiders at the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship,with with ACC President Lloyd Jodah,in Florida</p></div>
