Adrian Gordon (NYU-Poly) signs to play 2012 season in England !

After catching the eye of American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah at a practice game, Adrian Gordon worked with Lloyd to start a cricket club at NYU- Polytechnic University, to play in the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship.

Then in the first Northeast regional Gordon led NYU-Poly to the Finals, then travelled to Washington DC to assist in staging the Mid Atlantic Championship.

His leadership and commitment to American College Cricket earned him selection as 1 of 5 College Cricket Players of 2010, as well as College All-American selections, in 2010 and 2011.

Gordon then played for the USA in Italy in the World Cricket League Division 4. Gordon took 3 for 21 against Tanzania, 3 for 25 against Argentina and wrapped up the tournament by destroying the batting of Italy, taking 4 wickets for 35. Italy had beaten the USA ,earlier in the tournament in a game which Gordon did not play. This effort helped USA climb to Division 3 (it later was relegated to Div 4 in the next tournament when Gordon was not selected).

March 2012 saw Gordon lead NYU-Poly again in the national Championship, where he smashed a record breaking 145*. No surprise he was named a Championship MVP.

Since graduating in 2011 with a degree in Biomolecular Science Gordon, with Jodah, has been considering a number of options, including one in Australia.

Adrian explained, “Mr Lloyd and I have been looking at different opportunities and the offer by Skegness Cricket Club to play in the Lincolnshire County Board Premier Cricket League is a good one. It would be during the summer months, from April to September - I can still pursue my Master’s, but for nearly half the year I’ll play the game I love !”

The contract was arranged through CricX.com, a Cricket Exchange Agency, and does not prevent Adrian from playing International cricket, “I appreciate playing for USA and wanted to remain available to play, if selected.”

Adrian said, “I’ll be going to England in April, so I’ll be able to play in the March American College Cricket Spring Break Championship as one of the two alums allowed ! “

3rd TV Game : Ryerson University wins Northeast Championship !

In the 3rd TV game in American and Canadian history, Toronto’s Ryerson University took on NYU-Polytechnic.

The two teams faced off on TV Asia on Sat Nov 12, in the Finals of the American College Cricket Northeast Championship, and an opportunity to zoom up the rankings, maybe even to number 1 !

Ryerson University’s pace attack is 5 deep, and tall - Warren Rajroop is 6’5′, Rayan Pathan 6’4′, Siufian Chaudhary 6’2′, Azad Zaidi,6′ with Harsh Desai -bouncers come easy !

NYU-Polytechnic atttack boast America’s fastest, Adrian Gordon but it was clear that Ryerson held the advantage in the bowling dept.

Batting first the NYU-Polytechnic batsmen relied on extras to move the score along, and at the end of the Power Play they had just 17 runs for 2 wickets.

However hard hitting strokeplayer Adrian Gordon had just come to the wicket, and he delighted with some glorious cuts and hooks, getting 4 twos on the slow outfield, before stroking 3 fours.

In March Gordon smashed 145* in the national championship, so the Ryerson team had to be getting worried when Gordon came back too casually for aa 2nd run, and was run out !

Gordon was out at 56, and only Somesh Batra, 12 reached double figures as the NYU-Poly team crumbled.

Once again Harsh Desai took crucial wickets, 2 for 17 off 3 overs. Hasan Mirza, the Ryerson captain, 2 for 15 in 3 overs and Azad Zaidi 3 for 6 in 1.3 overs.

Hasan Zaidi then opened the batting with Farhan Khan,10 and played a solid innings before opening up,striking 2 sixes and 1 four in 30*. Coming at 3, Rahat smashed 4 sixes in his 33* as the two put on an unbeaten partnership of 68 runs to win the game and the title for Ryerson !

A mistake was made in declaring Azad Zaidi the MVP, as it was his brother, Hasan who made 30*. The MVP was Harsh Desai, who once again took crucial wickets to swing the game Ryerson’s way.

Ryerson won in such a convincing manner that they have immediately vaulted themselves to be among the favorites to win the Chanderpaul Trophy at next March’s American College Cricket Spring Break Championship.

The groundbreaking televising of cricket in USA & Canada continues this Saturday Nov 12, at 7 pm on TV Asia, with the Finals of the American College Cricket Northeast Championship !

Frrom 10 teams we have the Final two : NYU – Polytechnic featuring America’s fastest bowler, Adrian Gordon, vs Toronto’s Ryerson University, featuring 4 pacers !

Gordon has made possibly the highest score in a 20/20 game in America – he scored 145* at last March’s national Championship, whilst Chintan Modi looked in great form in the semis vs Rutgers.

However Ryerson has 4 pacers over 6 feet tall, including Warren Rajroop at 6’5′ and Rayan Pathan at 6’4′ ,capable of generating great bounce. Then there is the effective medium pacer Harsh Desai.

At the Central Broward Regional Park, the American College Cricket Southeast Championship begins Sat with Auburn University defending its SE title. Last year the newly formed University of Florida Gators team put up a strong fight in the Finals, spearheaded by a magnificent innings by Ricky Nayar.

But the Auburn Tigers led by Naveen Thiagarajan and Rahul Potghan,has played as one of the most tightly knit teams in college cricket and were crowned the SE Champs.

The Gators Cricket Club have also gone on to start an Alumni Network to support their cricket club. They have won 9 of 11 “practice games” played this semester in preparation for the regionals said Vijay Pappu.

The University of South Florida (USF) Bulls under Sri Harsh Boddepalli, have been consistently strong since they were started for the first National Championship (2009 ). They were in a Finalist in 2009, a Final Four in 2010, & played undefeated in 2011, narrowly missing the final four on points.

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) led by Ranjit feel they are ready to become the top team in the Southeast.However USF’s Nagesh Nayak says, “Even the Indian team doesn’t practice as much as USF does.”

Saturday Oct 29,in the annals of world cricket will be looked back on as one of the most important days – Rutgers University played NYU-Polytechnic on TV in USA and Canada.

And what a game it was ! Coming down to the last over, the last ball !

Rutgers, trying to get 119 to win, had stuttered to 76 for 6 off 15 and their cause looked lost, with only 3 overs left in the 18 overs match. But Asad Ghous attacked the NYU-Poly bowlers for 2 fours and 3 sixes, before being run out, to make it 11 runs need in the last over !

NYU-Poltechnic’s Adrian Gordon took the ball to bowl the final over. Gordon is one of the fastest bowlers in the USA.

First ball Gordon was struck for 6 by Taha Khan to make in 5 runs needed in 5 balls. A run later and it was 4 runs needed in 2 balls to win !

But then Gordon struck ! getting the next 2 Rutgers batsmen caught out on successive deliveries, he had won the game for NYU-Polytechnic !

Batting first Rutgers had lost 2 early wicketes before Vinti Kelkar,32 (2 fours,3 sixes) and Adrian Gordon,25 (2 fours 1 six) to them to 69 before Kelkar went in the 9th over. Divyesh Gandhi striking for Rutgers getting both Kelkar aand Gordon.

NYU-Poly managed to get to 118 off 18 overs helped by Somesh Batra’s 26 (1 six,1 four). Divyesh Gandhi and Nisarg Choksi, Rutgers Captain, took 2 wickets each.

Rutgers lost 2 early wickets but and were struggling at 76 for 6 after 15 overs, with Haider Ali scoring18.

So to celebrate its 3rd anniversary American College Cricket made a quantum leap for cricket in America by partnering with TV Asia for the momentous TV event.

TV Asia’s viewers are part of the most affluent and highly educated demographic in the United States, and American College Cricket is the ideal television product for companies wishing to market to that audience. From BMW to Universities, major American and Canadian companies now have a new way to reach a key market.

There were many logistical hurdles which were met by the Riverview Studios crew and TV Asia. The camera crew was filming cricket for the first time, and will get better with each game. Founder of American College Cricket Lloyd Jodah provided commentary.

Behind the scenes a quiet Hugh Pitter ensured the way was paved for the historic event on his home field, Spring Creek Cricket field aka Gateway, in Brooklyn. CricketzoneUSA made the TV Asia Trophy.

Having set the bar high, by being the first to webcast cricket in America back in March 20, American College Cricket has now taken the game to a whole new level in the USA and Canada.

Though largely unknown now, in 1844 one of the most signicficant events in world history happened in New York City. For the first time two countries did battle, not on a battle field, but on a playing field. The event was the first ever international sports event – a cricket game between the USA and Canada.

The match took place at what is now 34th St and 2nd Ave, in Manhattan – now the site of the NYU Medial Center.

On Saturday October 29, at 7 pm on TV Asia, another historic first happens for American and world cricket, Rutgers University plays NYU Polytechnic in the first ever American College Cricket televised game ! So spread the word in your colleges, on Facebook, among your family, friends and contacts !

Rutgers & NYU-Poly in first TV game ! NJIT & Ryerson next !

On 5 fields in Queens and Brooklyn NYC on a beautiful day for cricket, after pool play two highly favored teams, University of Pennsylvania and York College did not make it to the final four.

Defending 2010 Northeast Champion Rutgers looked like a cohesive unit as they went undefeated, whilst Canadian Champion Ryerson, having beat York University (by 1 run) came in with a formidable reputation.

The NJ Institute of Technology team practised hard for this tournament, and they got the results, whilst NYU-Poly looked good. However now, in the final four draw NYU-Poly goes up against a team they have not beaten before,Rutgers, NJIT takes on Ryerson.

All 3 games will be televised on TV Asia. Play starts at 9 am Spring Creek Cricket Field, commmonly called Gateway, near the Gateway Shopping Center.. All 3 games will be televised on TV Asia.

University of Pennsylvania defeated Boston University.

York College defeated UPenn.

Queen’s College batted first and scored 135/7 and Rutgers scored 139/4 in 17.1 overs to win.

Boston University batted first and scored 121/9 and Rutgers smashed 122/1 in 11.2 overs. Queens College scored 97 in 18 overs, which Canadian champions Ryerson chased down in the 14th over.
Ryerson chased it down in 14th over.

NJIT. batted first scored 179/6 in 20 Overs. York College. 134/9 in 17.3 Overs.

NJIT Won The Match by 45 Runs

NYU-Polytechnic gave its star cricket player, Adrian Gordon,a sendoff upon his graduation with a wonderful article on the school’s website.Gordon graduated with a degree in Biomolecular Science and is currently considering options to play cricket professionally.

American College Cricket 2011 MVP Adrian Gordon (NYU-Poly) is in India, in camp with the IPL’s Rajasthan Royals, sponsored by Big League USA. Gordon, who is possibly the fastest bowler in the USA, also scored a magnificent 145* on the large Florida fields at the 2011 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship last March.

Enjoying his time with the Rajasthan Royals, Adrian reports from India (photos later) :

good day today, bowled real fast at the practice, with the boundaries close i mean very close lol,

also got a picture with every one on the team, going to try to get one with Sachin and the Mumbai players tomorrow…also the coach will work with me individually on sunday and monday so thats a good thing.

the hotel here is pretty nice also…got all the kits lol

Hung out with Kieron Pollard and his little son,playing some reggae music.

Took a walk downtown with Johan Botha and Ross Taylor

Now off to the Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians game……hope I get to meet Sachin !
