Cricket is the original Americana game, with records showing it played back at the beginning of the  1700s. George Washington and the Revolutionary Troops played it at Valley Forge. Both Baseball and Cricket originally came from England but cricket was bigger and older. The earliest sports teams in USA were cricket teams (Haverford 1834, Penn 1842). Only after the Civil War did baseball begin to move ahead of cricket in USA for a number of reasons.

The 1st International Sporting event of any kind was an 1844 cricket match between USA and Canada, in NYC. As Lloyd Jodah says, ‘It was the first time ever young men from different countries battled on a Playing field, instead of a Battle Field.’

There’s a Show on Netflix called ‘Cricket Explained’ which gives a very good explanation of cricket. American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah contributed to the Show. Since its founding Nov 2008 American College Cricket has led the way for the sport is USA in countless ways, including televising it and getting the Finals on ESPN in March 2014.

Here’s a video made at Boston University where then BU Captain Hayat Khan gave a good explanation a few years ago. Hayat graduated from Med School last month…. then below is an ad for the games shown on SONY tv.
