We are ecstatic that Alvin Kallicharran, one of the greatest batsmen of all time, has been awarded a British Empire Medal by the Queen of England in her annual New Year’s Honors.

About 2 years ago Lloyd Jodah, American College Cricket President, was contacted by someone from England who asked about Kallicharran’s connection to American College Cricket, and if Lloyd would support a Queen’s honor for Kallicharran. Lloyd happily wrote his thoughts about the left handed ‘Kalli’ who was the top batsman in the world in the 1970s.

Today Kallicharran’s assault on the fearsome Australian fast bowlers, Lille and Thompson early in the first World Cup in 1975 is a popular video on YouTube and social media. It is an astonishing highlight reel, demonstrating Lillee and Thomson could be handled and set the stage for West Indies to win that World Cup.
