PHiladelphia International Cricket Festival – Videos & Pics
A team won the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival – no disrespect intended to the team but the Festival is about much more than winning matches or the tournament. The opportunity to be in the environments of the 3 historic country clubs in particular, Philadelphia Cricket Club (established first in 1854), Germantown Cricket Club (founded shortly after in 1854) and the Merion Cricket Club (founded in 1865) is a remarkable experience for a fan with a sense of the history of the game. Pavilions built in the 1890s are grand, and one can walk in the footsteps of America cricketers of over 100 years ago.
The Festival always has a Special Guest, who this year was Nick Compton – who was marking his Benefit year with Middlesex County as well as the Centenary of the Birth of his Grandfather, the dashing great Denis Compton ! Off the field activities included a formal dinner and Speech by Nick on Saturday night at Merion, and a Brunch on Sunday at Germantown. This year the Brunch was rushed in an effort to beat predicted rain.
American College Cricket President Lloyd Jodah has been attending at least the final day since 2009, with the exception of 1 year when he had a commitment in Texas. Following are some videos Lloyd took at the Festival, mainly to give cricket fans around the world an view of these historic facilities.Germantown Cricket Club, founded 1854
